Next, I tested the video-to-video feature, which turns your videos into anime-style videos in minutes.

I started with a random clip I found online of someone talking on the phone.

To turn this clip into anime, use the video-to-video feature and go to domoai.app/create/video/.

Upload your video to this view, adjust the settings, and choose the style you want the AI to apply.

There are plenty of styles available.

I started with Illustration v1.2.

You can adjust the duration and other settings if you want.

I extended my clip from 3 seconds to 10 seconds.

When you’re ready, click “Generate.”

After about 10 minutes of waiting, I got my results.

4. Character Move

Next, I tested the character move feature.

It lets you take a video (for example, of yourself) and apply the movements from that video to a character in an image.

To use it, sign in and choose the “Move” feature from the Home view.

Here’s a video of someone dancing that I found online:

Now I wanted to give my anime character those same dance moves.

I uploaded a short 3-second clip of someone dancing and set my anime character image as the character to copy the moves.

After about eight minutes of processing, here’s the result I got:

To be honest, that wasn’t quite what I expected.

There are a couple of characters in the scene, and only one is dancing. One of them is even missing a leg.

So I decided to give it a simpler task — walking — to see what happens.

Here’s a clip I found of someone walking:

I thought the walk looked cool, so I wanted to see how well the AI could copy it to my anime character. I uploaded the image and video to the Move feature and waited about 15 minutes.

Much better.

It’s pretty close to what I wanted, though the character consistency slips a bit on closer look — the hand movements and clothing change in odd ways.

In short, ChatGPT can create unique and original anime-style art.

For example, I gave ChatGPT this prompt:

“Create an anime image of a boy walking in the rain during a thunderstorm in a big city.”

You can guide it to follow a specific anime style just by adjusting your prompt.

For example, here’s what I got when I asked ChatGPT to recreate the same image in Shonen style:

That’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?

You can even use ChatGPT for free to make 3–5 images a day, so it’s easy to try without a paid plan.

2. Anime Prompting

Another great use for ChatGPT is creating prompts for anime generators.

Since I’m not a big anime fan, I sometimes struggle to come up with creative prompts for the best results. That’s where ChatGPT comes in.

For example, here’s the prompt it gave me when I asked for a detailed input to recreate the earlier images in another AI anime app:

If the text is hard to read, here’s the prompt I received:

A young anime boy with messy spiky black hair walking alone in a rainy modern big city at night, holding a large black umbrella. He’s wearing a wet dark t-shirt and backpack. The city streets are empty, wet and reflective from heavy rain, tall skyscrapers with glowing windows all around. As you can see, this is a very detailed description. It would take me at least 30 minutes to come up with something even close to it on my own.

I can then use this prompt in different AI anime generators.

That’s useful because, with my limited anime knowledge, I wouldn’t be able to create outputs like this otherwise.

3. Upscaling Anime Images

After the March 2025 updates, you can use ChatGPT to edit images.

It’s not traditional editing since the AI still generates a new image, but you can use it to improve the quality of your anime art.

For example, I asked ChatGPT to sharpen a blurry anime image.

Here’s the result I got back:

Some of you might notice that it’s not the same image I asked the AI to upscale, but it’s very close.

That’s because the AI doesn’t directly edit the photo. Instead, it uses the details in the original to create a new version.

It works well because it can “see” past the blur and noise, but since it’s AI, there’s always a bit of randomness in the results.

Still, this is a solid way to improve low-resolution anime images with ChatGPT.

4. Editing Anime Images

Just like with enhancing quality, you can use ChatGPT to make edits to anime character images.

Again, it won’t directly modify the picture — it creates a new one that looks very similar to the original.

For example, I asked ChatGPT to add lightning in the background of this anime image:

That’s so cool — and surprisingly good.

I’ve tried similar edits on real photos, and they weren’t as impressive, but with anime and cartoons, the results are much better.

Pros

• Easy to use — Sign up for ChatGPT and start creating. Just write your request like you’re chatting with a person. Not sure what to ask? You can even ask ChatGPT to help you figure it out.
• Epic results — With the newest OpenAI o4 model, the images look amazing, and you can even include text in them.
• Edits — ChatGPT can “edit” images by generating new ones that are slightly modified versions of the originals.

Cons

• No video — ChatGPT can make images, edits, and prompts, but it can’t create anime animations yet.
• No video-to-video — You can’t turn a video into anime-style video. You can only do this with still images.
• Price — If you’re only using it for anime art, $20 per month may feel expensive for a limited number of image generations.

Canva is a well-known tool for photo editing, design, and more.

It has all kinds of features, including AI apps like the anime maker, which you can try for free.

If you want to create original anime art and customize it, Canva is a solid choice. It’s also beginner-friendly — you can learn the basics in 10–20 minutes.

• Edits — Use Canva’s editor to remove backgrounds, apply filters, adjust colors, and more.

My Experience

I’ve been using Canva AI for a while, so I had to try the anime maker.

To use it, first go to this page:

Give the AI a short description to create images from.

For example, you could write: “Anime girl with long hair among cherry blossoms.”

The AI will then take a few seconds to make your anime images.

After 5–10 seconds or so, here are the images that the AI gave me.

Choose the one that fits what you want. If none work, click “Generate again” to make new anime characters from the start.

To place an image on your Canva canvas, just click it.

You can then download the design or make changes to it.

If you click on the image again, you’ll find a bunch of editing options that Canva offers.

I created another image and started to work on it.

For example, I used the Polar filter here to give the image brighter and cooler colors.

You can even remove the background from your image if you want.

Then you can swap it with colors that match the character.

But Canva has limits when it comes to making videos or doing custom edits.

You can still add some simple transitions, like this:

One nice thing about Canva is you can make mock-ups with your anime designs.

For example, I put the anime image I made earlier on a coffee mug:

To use mock-ups, open Canva, go to “Apps,” and search for “Mockups.”

This works well if you want to put your anime characters on coffee mugs, bags, or clothes.

In that way, Canva is different. It’s not an anime platform at all. But it is a well-known design tool that lets you edit your designs, make mock-ups, use color themes, add transitions, and more.
