My Experience with Aiarty Matting
I bought the paid plan for Aiarty Matting to show you what it can do and whether it’s worth using.

To use Matting, go to this page and download a trial.
Once you’ve started the trial or bought a plan, you can begin using the software.
This is what the default view in the app looks like.
You can drag and drop an image or click the arrow button to choose one.
I dragged and dropped an old photo of me into the view:
I clicked start to run the AI matting process with the default settings and models. You can change these in the top right if you want to pick a different AI model or hardware.
It took a bit of time for the AI to process. Free tools I’ve used in the past only take a second or two, but the trade-off is lower-quality results.
Here’s the before-and-after of my image with Aiarty Matting.
As you can see, the results are impressive. The detail is much better than with free tools, which usually work but still leave plenty to fix.
Aiarty Matting isn’t just for removing backgrounds, even though that’s one of its main uses. You can also swap the background for a solid color or your own custom image.
Depending on the image, you can also make a mask that leaves a silhouette of the AI-matted object. You can then fill that space with something else.
One feature I liked was the Blur option, which you can find in the panel on the right.
My photo had a busy forest background, so I used Blur to soften it and reduce the contrast.
There are also different blur modes. For example, motion blur can work for images where you want to show a sense of speed. It didn’t suit my photo, but it does work.
You can also easily change your background to black and white.
Oh, and I almost forgot—here’s a close-up of the AI matting result. Take a look at this:
What’s impressive is the precision. The AI picked up even the individual hairs on my head and separated them from the background.
That’s really good.
For comparison, here’s how a free tool handled it:
That’s nowhere near Aiarty Matting. The quality is poor, and while the result is somewhat accurate, it’s missing the detail you get with the paid AI.
Here’s another image for comparison:
Even though the hair was dark and blended into the background, the AI matting removed the person perfectly.
This is as good as it gets. Free tools can get close, but not at this level. I’m impressed.
Now, let’s change the background. First, drag and drop an image into the view and click “Start” to run the matting, just like before.
When it’s done, you’ll see the before-and-after images.
Then click “Background” on the right and select the image icon from the options that appear:

- Image editing modes. You can easily edit backgrounds and objects with the built-in tools.
- Free trial. Even though it’s downloadable software, you can try it for free before paying.
Cons
- Similar free tools exist. If accuracy isn’t important, free tools can work for thumbnails or blog posts. But for product images or ads, I wouldn’t recommend them—they can look cheap.
- Price. At $99, it’s a bit expensive if you only want to change a background for something casual like a thumbnail or invitation.
