I spent weeks trying out different AI-powered email marketing tools. In this post, I will show you my favorite.
The best one I came across is MailModo.
This AI-based email marketing tool is easy to use. At the same time, it fixes a lot of the common problems I’ve had when running email campaigns.
In this post, I’ll show you how it works, share my experience with it, and cover a few other useful things along the way.

Let me walk you through how to use MailModo AI and share what my experience with the platform has been like.
Step 1: Create an Account and Pick a Plan
To use it for the first time, go to the MailModo website and sign up.

You can start creating your email marketing campaigns free.

Then it’ll ask you a few simple questions about your campaign and the size of your audience.

After that, you’ll land on your dashboard, which looks like this.

Then here’s the AI feature.
You can use AI to check how your campaigns are performing or even plan a new one, among other things.

If you click it, you’ll see the MailModo AI chat view.

When you send a message, it takes a bit of time for the AI to come up with a response.
For example, I asked the AI to build a nurturing sequence for my SEO students to help promote my course.

After around 30 seconds, this is what the AI gave me:

I’m impressed that I haven’t spent a single dollar so far, and I’ve already built a draft campaign using AI.
If you’ve never used a tool like this before, it’s a great first look at how to plan customer journeys within your email list.
You can also make changes to the journey planner if you want.

You can drag and drop the elements around and add more nodes whenever you need to.
And you can keep sending messages too.

For example, after I mentioned that I wanted people to take my course, the AI added extra logic to the sequence.

For anyone who has sold products online, this sequence already looks really good.
Of course, it’s not fully ready yet.
You still need to understand your audience and product to create proper journeys like this.
But honestly, no marketing campaign is ever truly “finished.” There are always new trends, tools, and changes that affect what works best.
Still, if you’re just starting out and want to get campaigns running quickly, this is miles better than building everything from scratch.
And from what I’ve seen so far, the results already come pretty close to what you’d call an “ideal funnel.”
I was genuinely surprised that you can do this much with AI for free.
Once you’ve set up your journey steps, you can move on to setting the trigger for it.

That’ll open up the AI-based campaign editor view.

Here you can build automated email sequences that trigger when users take certain actions.
The editor gives you a visual way to design how your contacts move through emails, time delays, and actions based on different conditions.
Let me explain how it works.
Trigger
At the top of your journey is the trigger, which decides when the sequence starts.
In this case, the trigger begins when a contact is added to a list. Once that happens, Mailmodo automatically runs the series of actions you’ve set up below.
You can also use other types of triggers, like form submissions, campaign interactions, or custom events.
- Actions
Actions are what Mailmodo does after the trigger fires.
In this example, the main action is Send Campaign, which sends an email to the contact.
The first email welcomes the new subscriber, shares an SEO Starter Checklist download, and introduces the course.
The following emails expand on that, talking about SEO benefits, advanced lessons, and special offers.
Other available actions (shown on the left panel) include:
- Send SMS — send a text message to the contact.
- Add or remove contacts from a list — organize leads into groups.
- Update contact property — edit or add contact details.
- Webhook — connect Mailmodo to other tools or systems.
- Update subscription status — control whether a contact receives marketing emails.
- Delays
The Wait for time period blocks adds pauses between each message.
In this sequence:
- The system waits 2 days after the first email before sending the second.
- Then 3 days before the third email.
- And 1 more day before moving to the next step.
Delays help spread things out so new contacts don’t get too many emails too quickly.
- Conditions
The Conditions section lets you set rules based on contact behavior.
For example, you could send one email if someone opens a campaign and a different one if they don’t.
This makes your journey more personal and can boost engagement.
- Setup Checklist
On the right side, the Setup Checklist shows what still needs to be done before you publish the journey.
It helps you confirm everything’s in place, like making sure the trigger connects to the right list.
It also lets you review all your campaigns, delays, and settings to make sure timing and content look good.
Once I started using this view, I noticed that it takes a bit of time for the journey points to load.

After about two minutes, it’s still generating.
You can also drag, drop, or remove elements from your journey as it builds.

Then click on any journey point to customize it.
For example, here’s the second one from the top in my AI-generated setup:

This view lets you edit how the email looks.
You can design everything from the layout to the headings and subheadings.

Pretty handy, right?
Also, notice how you can easily use AI to generate your contents there.
What I really like about this tool is how it guides you through every step so you’re never stuck.
And the AI helps you build journeys that actually fit your needs instead of using generic templates or cookie-cutter workflows, since every audience is different.
Key Features

Now let’s look at the features that make MailModo stand out from other similar tools.
Interactive & AMP Features
This is the part that really makes Mailmodo different from other AI email marketing tools and email marketing tools in general.

You can add interactive elements like polls, surveys, feedback forms, appointment pickers, shopping carts, and sign-up fields right inside the email.
This means readers can take action without leaving their inbox, which helps improve conversions.
These interactive “AMP emails” work best in Gmail and a few other clients, while Outlook and Apple Mail show a simpler fallback version.
Still, it’s impressive how much engagement you can get directly from inside the email itself.

AI Features
I’ve already shown this earlier, but Mailmodo’s built-in AI really helps save time when planning campaigns.
It can write email content, suggest subject lines, build full automation journeys, and even give you performance summaries.
It feels more guided too — you can actually chat with the AI to adjust tone or logic instead of just accepting some generic text.
It’s perfect for creating first drafts and helps beginner marketers follow good industry practices.
Automation & Journey Builder
The journey builder lets you visually map out customer flows using triggers, delays, and conditional branches.

You can set automations to start when someone joins a list, fills out a form, or performs a specific action.
It works great for welcome sequences, onboarding, or re-engagement campaigns.
You can add time delays and “if-then” conditions to personalize how each contact moves through the funnel.
For simple to mid-level workflows, it’s ideal. But if you’re used to more advanced branching or complex paths, it might feel a bit limited.
Segmentation & Personalization
Mailmodo lets you segment your contacts based on behavior, demographics, engagement, or custom fields.

You can add personalized variables to subject lines and email content, and even show different content blocks based on who’s reading.
It’s easy to create smaller, more focused segments instead of emailing your entire list at once.
The more data you give it, the more targeted and effective your campaigns will be.
Integrations
Mailmodo integrates with popular tools like Shopify, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zapier, WebEngage, and Mixpanel, among others.

Here are some of the key integrations:
Transactional Email API — lets you send automated, real-time transactional emails through Mailmodo’s API.
Segment Events API — connects with Segment so you can personalize emails based on event data.
Mailmodo for Developers — gives developers tools and examples for building transactional email use cases with the API.
Zapier — connects Mailmodo with over 3,000 other apps for data sharing and automation.
HubSpot — syncs Mailmodo with HubSpot to use your marketing and sales data for smarter campaigns.
Clevertap — works with Clevertap to boost customer engagement and retention through email.

For example, you can send a post-purchase feedback email after a Shopify order or push webinar sign-ups from a form straight into your CRM.

Analytics & Reporting

The analytics dashboard tracks key metrics like opens, clicks, conversions, and form submissions.
You can also monitor your contacts and see their current statuses.

You can filter the charts based on dates.

For AMP campaigns, you can even see how users interact with widgets inside the email.
The dashboard is simple and easy to read, but it focuses more on overall performance than on detailed attribution or revenue tracking.
If you connect Mailmodo with tools like Google Analytics or HubSpot, you’ll get a clearer view of your ROI.

Deliverability & Support
From my experience and research, most emails I sent with Mailmodo landed straight in the inbox, not in spam.
That might surprise some people, but email deliverability isn’t something you can just assume will work fine.
Poor deliverability — when emails end up in spam — happens when mailbox providers stop trusting your domain.
An email provider could suddenly decide that anything sent from @example.com belongs in spam.
This can happen if too many people ignore or mark your emails as spam, if you send to old or fake addresses, or if your platform shares IPs with bad senders.
Missing authentication, like SPF, DKIM, or DMARC, also makes providers think your emails might not be safe.
Some bad platforms make it worse by skipping IP warmup, sending too fast, or not cleaning lists automatically.
Over time, this builds a bad sender reputation that’s hard to fix.
Deliverability is never fully guaranteed either, since inbox filters and algorithms change all the time. Even good senders can see sudden drops.
The best way to stay safe is to use a trusted platform with clean infrastructure, verify your domain, keep your lists updated, and only send to people who actually want your emails.
That’s where Mailmodo stands out — it walks you through setting up domain authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) to boost your sender reputation and includes detailed help guides if you need support.
What I Loved about MailModo AI
Here’s what stood out to me the most while using Mailmodo:
The AI helped a lot with my first campaign. It built an almost ready-to-use journey in minutes.
You can create interactive emails with forms, polls, and carts right inside the message. It makes it easy for readers to take action without leaving their inbox.
The editor is simple and intuitive. You can design clean, professional emails fast without needing a designer or developer.
Everything is organized in one place — campaigns, automations, analytics, and contact management all share the same dashboard.
Deliverability was excellent. My emails consistently landed in inboxes, and open rates stayed high.
The support team was great too. They were quick to reply, helped me set up templates, and answered all my questions clearly.
What Could Be Better
Here are a few areas where Mailmodo could be better:
Not every email client supports interactive content. For example, Outlook and Apple Mail still show a simpler HTML version.
Getting approval for interactive features can take a little time when you first set up your account.
The automation builder works well for simple journeys, but it can feel a bit limited if you need complex workflows.
The analytics dashboard covers opens and clicks but doesn’t go very deep into attribution or multi-touch tracking.
The email templates look good, but there could be more options for niche layouts. (It’s worth noting though that plain, unformatted emails often perform surprisingly well today.)
Pricing goes up as your contact list grows or as you send more emails.

When to Use MailModo
Basically, if you plan to send emails in sequences, that’s when Mailmodo really comes in handy.
Doing it manually would either get you blacklisted or burn you out fast.
Tools like Mailmodo are best when you want your emails to do more than just send people to a website.
Here are some solid reasons to use Mailmodo:
- If you want better engagement than a standard newsletter.
- If you want to collect data, run surveys, or accept sign-ups right inside the email.
- If you don’t want to depend on developers to build interactive campaigns.
- If you want to create and test automated journeys without using multiple tools.
A good way to start is by testing a small segment of your list. Send one or two interactive campaigns and compare the results to your usual ones.
If you see higher engagement, then you’ll know it’s time to scale up.
Final Thoughts
After testing 15 different AI email marketing tools, Mailmodo ended up being my favorite.
It’s simple to use, powerful enough for serious campaigns, and flexible when you want to test ideas quickly.
It’s not flawless, but it saves time, keeps your branding consistent, and helps you send emails people actually engage with.
