I Tested 45+ AI Headshot Generators — Here’s the Best One for Professional Results

I’ve tested more than 35 AI headshot generators so you don’t have to.

The one I liked best is BetterPic.

BetterPic takes your selfies and turns them into clean, professional headshots.

Here are some real examples of my own photos:

Here are my AI headshots:

These are insanely realistic!

They look a lot like me, with just a few tiny details slightly off.

My Experience with BetterPic

I went with BetterPic’s Pro plan to save both time and money.

The tool makes images fast, lets you tweak them, and even gives you a free manual edit from their team.

You can try it yourself by signing up. Or, if you just want to read and see more results along with my thoughts, that’s fine too!

Before you jump in and get your headshots, there are a few instructions you need to know:

The AI needs to learn what you look like from your existing photos.

Basically, you’ll need to send it some casual pictures of yourself. They don’t have to be professional—like I showed earlier, I just used shots from my iPhone camera roll.

Before moving on, give the AI some info about yourself, like your name, ethnicity, and how you plan to use the headshots.

Next, it’s time to pick a few headshot styles you like. You can choose up to three.

This helps you get better control over the results and makes the headshots more accurate for how you plan to use them.

Not all tools offer this feature, so that’s why I appreciate it a lot.

I’ve tested a bunch of these headshot generators and I think this was the only one, to be honest.

One more thing—read the image instructions again. I recommend using a mix of photos with different lighting, outfits, and poses so the AI gets a good idea of what you look like.

Before uploading, make sure to check the image guide. Your face should be clearly visible, and avoid making any funny faces.

These are the images I used:

When you upload photos, BetterPic gives each one a quality grade.

Low-res images won’t be accepted. This is actually the trickiest part of using tools like BetterPic for AI headshots.

Your photos need to be clear and high-resolution, or the AI won’t be able to pick up your features and learn what you look like.

If you don’t have a lot of pictures of yourself, this part can be a bit annoying.

The AI took about 45 minutes to generate 100 images of me.

You don’t have to sit there and wait. Everything runs on BetterPic’s servers, so you can just close the window. Even better, they’ll email you when your images are ready.

Here are the AI headshots I got from BetterPic:

Isn’t that awesome?

These look really close to me, and to someone who doesn’t know me, they’d probably look like exact copies.

Here are some more results, this time as close-ups:

It’s pretty wild that the AI can do stuff like this.

The only thing that gives it away is that I don’t usually dress this professionally. Other than that, there’s no way to tell these are AI headshots and not real photos of me.

Even though I’ve hyped it up a bit, let’s be real for a second.

AI headshots—or anything made with AI—are always a bit of a gamble. If there’s an image you like but something seems off, you can ask the team for a manual edit.

To do that, just pick the image, click “BP AI Edit,” then choose “Human Edit.”

I asked the team to remove my necklace because I never wear those.

Here’s the before-after result:

They removed the necklace flawlessly!

This is a game-changer because now I can buy an AI photoshoot for my team knowing that everyone will get at least one great result they’re happy with. However, this human-editing feature only belongs to the most expensive Expert plan!

Pros

  • Faster: It took just 30-45 minutes to create the AI images, compared to 1–2 hours with other similar tools.
  • Realistic images: BetterPic created near-perfect replicas using just 8 real photos of myself. That’s so cool!
  • User-friendly: The least difficult, smoothest, and quickest AI headshot tool I’ve tested.
  • AI editing: Allows you to edit images, change backgrounds, eye color, attire, and more.

Cons

  • Slower than taking real images: While BetterPic is faster than other AI headshot generator products, 45 minutes might still feel a bit too slow.
  • Errors: Sometimes misses the mark and the AI photos end up looking a bit off…

Pricing

  • Basic: $35 (one time)
  • Pro: $39 (one time)
  • Expert: $79 (one time)
