In this post, I will show you the best tools with my results.

1. Aidetector.com
Aidetector.com is my favorite AI image detector. It also works for text.
It’s really easy to use—just drag and drop an image, and it will tell you if it was AI-generated or not.
Here are the two real images I tested with the tool:
The AI got both right! That’s pretty impressive.

The AI got both of these right, too, even though they were made with the newest OpenAI o4 model, which makes them look more realistic than before.
2. Winston AI
The next AI image detector I tried is Winston AI.
It’s a full AI detection platform, and one of its main features is the AI image detector, which I’ll show you today.
To use it, just sign up for the app. After signing up, you’ll see a screen that looks like this:
Here, you can choose between text detection and image detection.
Upload an image, and Winston AI will try to tell if it was generated by tools like Midjourney or DALL·E.
It doesn’t just check resolution or metadata—it looks for visual patterns that are common in AI-generated images.
For example, the AI told me that one of my images was 95% human, which is correct since it’s a real photograph.
It gave this image almost a 100% human score, which is correct.
Here’s another image I tested:
This time, the AI gave it a 100% AI score, which is true. The image is entirely AI-generated.
Here’s one more AI-generated image that I ran through Winston AI image detector:
Once again, it flagged this one as mostly AI. Notice, though, that the Human score is 11%.
This can be a bit misleading. With some images, the human score might be higher even if the image is fully AI-generated.

3. SightEngine — AI Image Detector
Sight Engine is an AI detection platform that helps you spot AI in images and text.
I tested it on some of my real images:
It got both right.
The tool said there was only a 1% chance these images were AI-generated. In other words, it was very confident they were real—and they are!
Next, I tested it with the AI-generated images I had just made:
Once again, the AI got it right. It said there’s a 99% chance these images are AI-generated—and that’s correct!
I did have some trouble using the tool at first.
At first, I thought it was free because it let me do one detection. Then I had to sign up to test more, but it didn’t let me detect additional images. I got around this by opening Chrome in Incognito mode and visiting the site again.
The reason is that this tool isn’t really meant for regular users. It’s an API for developers to add AI detection to their apps.
So if you try it, remember it’s mainly for developers.
Still, the AI detector seems to work pretty well.
4. WasItAI — AI Image Detector
WasItAI is a quick and easy tool to check if an image was AI-generated.
Just upload a photo and get instant results to spot fakes in seconds.
Here are the results I got for my four sample images.
First, the real images:
The tool got both of those right. Both are real images, just as it said.

This tool is also an API, meaning you can add these features to your own projects. So, if you’re a developer, it’s definitely worth checking out.
5. HiveModeration — AI Image Detector
HiveModeration is an AI platform that detects and filters harmful content like violence, nudity, hate speech, and spam. It works across images, videos, and text to help keep platforms safe.
They offer a free AI image detector on their site. It’s a bit slower than the other tools, but it also seems more accurate. While the other tools gave percentages like 99%, this one gives 99.9%.
I first tested it with my real images:
It got both right. They’re real images, and the AI correctly identified them.
Next, I tested it with the AI-generated photos to see if it would catch those too:

Pick any of the AI detectors from the list.
HiveModeration was accurate but a bit slower than the others.
Also, the first tool, Aidetector.com, crashed a few times, but the team said they’d fix it soon.
I’m not sure if all these tools use the same technology, but they all performed similarly. They gave similar confidence scores and took about the same time to analyze. So, choosing one as the “best” is a bit tricky.
