In this post, I’ll show you the best AI tattoo generators. I’ve tested them all to save you time.

For example, here’s one of the results I got:

But now, let’s dive deeper into the results!

1. Vondy

Vondy AI Tattoo Generator is a free web tool that lets you create custom tattoo designs by entering your preferences.

It’s easy to use and doesn’t require signing up. Just visit the website and start designing a tattoo with AI.

Here are my results and experiences with it.

Key Features

  • Generate tattoos from text prompts.
  • Multiple styles, including geometric, minimalist, nature-inspired, and abstract.
  • Customize placement, size, and extra details.
  • No account or sign-up needed.
  • Free to use, with an option to download your designs.

My Experience

Using Vondy was simple. I just went to their page and created tattoos using text inputs.

Here are some instructions I gave the AI:

Here’s the result:

I found that impressive. However, I have to admit I’m not sure if it just pulled this image from a library, because it looks so realistic.

Also, when I tried converting the image to black and white, it still gave me the same image back…

I had to try again with a more specific prompt so the AI wouldn’t just pick an image from a library.

This time, I asked it to create a tattoo of a cat on a leg.

Wow! That looks amazing. It really seems like the tattoo was actually placed there, which is impressive for an AI.

To see more tattoos for free, you’ll need to sign up for the service.

Also, remember that you can edit your AI-generated tattoos to make them look even better.

ChatGPT said:

This is a great option if you want to tweak the tattoos you just generated.

I have to say, this tool impressed me. I found it near the bottom of Google results, so I didn’t expect much. But the results ended up being some of the best AI-generated tattoos I’ve seen.

Some of the tattoos I created were even better than what I got from the newest AI image models like ChatGPT’s.

Pros

  • Free to try. Just go to the website, give your instructions, and let the AI do the rest.
  • No registration required—unless you want to see more results.
  • Editing. You can give custom instructions to tweak your designs.
  • Simple and easy-to-use interface.
  • Designs are generated quickly.

Cons

  • Customization is limited compared to some other tools.
  • Lacks advanced features like high-resolution downloads or professional editing tools.

2. ChatGPT

If you’re looking for a standalone AI tattoo generator, ChatGPT is a good choice. You can even use the image generator for free for a few images, so you don’t have to pay to try it out.

What I like about ChatGPT is that the new image model is impressive. You can even place tattoos on yourself if you want, with some minor adjustments to the original images.

That said, dedicated AI tattoo generators can be more convenient. They often have community showcases, ready-made prompts, different styles, and sometimes even input from real tattoo artists, which helps create more accurate designs.

(As you might expect, ChatGPT also has limits on the images it can generate.)

Here’s how you can use ChatGPT as an AI tattoo generator.

Key Features

  • Free to use for a limited number of tattoo images.
  • Create (almost) any tattoo (almost) anywhere.
  • Can understand text and place it in tattoos—something not possible before the OpenAI o4 image model.
  • Just describe your tattoo idea, and ChatGPT brings it to life.
  • You can edit existing tattoos using new instructions.

My Experience

Here are some examples I got from ChatGPT when I asked it to create tattoos.

For instance, I asked ChatGPT to make a minimalistic tattoo of a mountain scene on the forearm.

It takes about 1–2 minutes for ChatGPT to generate your images. After waiting, here’s the result I got:

Isn’t that incredible? This has to be one of the best results I’ve seen. It looks epic and very realistic.

Then, I asked it to create another one:

That’s so cool, once again!

Here’s what happened when I asked the AI to create the tattoo from the back:

That looks realistic too, though the shirt looks a bit strange. If your goal is AI art with the tattoo images, that could be an issue. But if you just want to see how the tattoo would look on skin, this is a great way to experiment.

Here’s another tattoo I made in a similar style, this time of a cat:

I wanted to put the cat on the arm, and here’s what it came up with:

Isn’t that amazing?

But I think the coolest part is that you can try tattoos on yourself with ChatGPT.

For example, I asked ChatGPT to give me a neck tattoo:

That is so cool! The image looks almost like me, and the tattoo looks very realistic. It curves naturally and the shading looks just right.

It’s hard to choose between ChatGPT and the other top AI tattoo tools. ChatGPT has almost no limitations, especially on the paid plan.

However, it’s not a dedicated AI tattoo platform, so it doesn’t have presets or community showcases that are easy to access.

Still, I’d definitely start with ChatGPT or at least try it alongside the other tools, because it can give such realistic results.

Pros

  • Easy to use — just tell the AI what tattoo you want, and it does the rest.
  • Versatile — the new AI image generator can handle text, any tattoo style, and even place tattoos on yourself.
  • Realistic — the newest model produces results that don’t look artificial.

Cons

  • Not dedicated — ChatGPT isn’t an AI tattoo platform. You get generic results, and it lacks the community and premium features of specialized tools.

Pricing

Free — $0/month

Plus — $20/month

Pro — $200/month

3. Tattoo AI

Tattoo AI is a mobile app that creates tattoo designs from your prompts.

It works on both iOS and Android. The app offers different styles and is designed to give quick design options. You can also use it on a desktop if you prefer.

Here’s a look at my AI tattoos and how to get started.

Key Features

  • Generates tattoos from text prompts.
  • Offers multiple tattoo styles.
  • Mobile-friendly interface.

My Experience

Here’s what it was like using Tattoo AI.

To start, you need to sign up. You can use your Google account so you don’t have to remember another password.

After signing in, you’ll see the AI tattoo view. It works a lot like ChatGPT — just type in a description of the tattoo you want, and the AI will create it.

For example, I asked the AI to create a tattoo of “Mountains” in black and white, placed on a forearm, in a 1:1 square format.

Then I waited about 30 seconds for the AI to generate the tattoo designs.

Here’s the result:

To me, that looked pretty amazing. With the Pro version, you can see more results, but even the first one is already impressive.

Next, I tried the same “Mountains” prompt but chose the Paganic tattoo style.

Here are the results:

That looks so realistic and cool again! From the small preview, it’s hard to tell if it’s AI or a real tattoo.

It still blows my mind how good the AI can be with tattoos. I expected basic images that clearly looked AI-made, but these turned out much better than I thought.

And of course, you don’t have to create tattoos yourself—you can also explore what others have made on the platform.

Pros

  • Quick and easy for generating basic tattoo ideas.
  • Available on both iOS and Android.
  • Offers multiple tattoo styles to suit different tastes.

Cons

  • Full access may require in-app purchases.
  • Limited customization compared to advanced tools.
  • Some designs may lack detail or uniqueness.

Pricing

Annually — $4.99/month

Monthly — $14.99/month

If you want to try out tattoo ideas but can’t draw, Canva’s AI Tattoo Generator is worth checking out.

You just type a description—like “blackwork snake with flowers” or “fine line compass”—and it makes a few design options for you.

After that, you can adjust things like size, style, or layout using Canva’s editor.

My Experience

Using Canva’s AI Tattoo Generator is straightforward. Just type your idea and click “Create a tattoo with AI.”

After waiting about 15 seconds, you’ll see a bunch of tattoo designs to pick from.

Pick the design you like the most.

It will then open in the Canva editor. You can do things like change the tattoo’s colors using the color buttons.

Here’s the tattoo in blue.

You’ll notice the skin tone also changed to a blue shade, but the tattoo updated nicely too.

Here, I tried changing it to green:

Here, I used a beige color:

Pretty handy, right?

I could do this for free in about 30 seconds.

I think it’s worth trying.

  • Quick way to see a tattoo idea without drawing

5. BlackInk AI

BlackInk AI is a web tool that lets you create tattoo designs just by typing a prompt.

It’s fast, offers a variety of styles, and gives a few free tries before you need to pay.

Here’s what I found when I tried it and how it works.

Key Features

  • Create tattoos from text—just describe what you want
  • Supports styles like dotwork, blackwork, geometric, sketch, and realism
  • You can choose placement, like forearm or back
  • Has a gallery of over 100,000 designs for inspiration
  • Lets you try designs as temporary tattoos before committing

My Experience

I tested BlackInk AI, and it’s easy to use.

Just go to their website, enter your idea, pick a style, and choose the body part.

For example, I asked the AI to make a tall tattoo of a beacon in the ocean in a minimalist style.

This is the first result I got:

Pretty cool, right? It didn’t show the tattoo on a body part this time, but it still looks great.

For another test, I asked the AI to make a tattoo of mountains in a Japanese style.

This is the result I got:

BlackInk also has a tattoo idea generator.

But that’s a paid feature. I’m not sure it’s worth buying just for that, since you can use ChatGPT to come up with cool tattoo ideas. You can even send a picture of yourself and a style, and the AI can suggest designs for you.

If you need inspiration, BlackInk AI’s website also has a list of tattoo styles you can check out.

You can also create filler tattoos on the site.

Pros

  • Quick and easy—just go to the website, describe your tattoo and style, and see the results
  • Lots of styles and design options to choose from
  • User-friendly interface—no technical or tattoo knowledge needed
  • Free trial lets you try it out and see how it works

Cons

  • Some users, and I noticed it too, see small design inaccuracies. This isn’t just BlackInk—it happens with most AI image generators
  • Free credits are limited; you need to pay for more to access all styles and features
  • AI designs can lack the detail and nuance of a professional artist

Pricing

Free Plan

  • 3 credits to try the product
  • Access to the style and tattoo idea directory
  • Limited trial with only generic templates and common styles
  • No control over complexity, color, or resolution

Pro Unlimited (Paid Plans)

  • $72/year → $0.19/day (billed annually, save 60%)
  • $39.99/3 months → $0.44/day (billed quarterly, best value)

Here’s another one I got:

7. Artguru

Artguru AI Tattoo Generator is a free online tool that lets you make custom tattoo designs just by typing a text prompt.

It’s easy to use and doesn’t require signing up.

Here’s what I found when I tried it.

Key Features

  • Create tattoos from text prompts
  • Offers different styles, including black ink and colorful designs
  • Can generate up to 4 images at once
  • Lets you upload reference images for more accurate results
  • High-resolution downloads up to 4K available with paid plans

My Experience

I tried Artguru AI, and it’s simple to use.

To get started, go to their website and tell the AI what kind of tattoo you want to see.

One thing that confused me is that Artguru is actually an AI image generator. After you enter the “Tattoo Generator,” you need to scroll to the bottom carousel and select the “Tattoo” option. If you don’t, it just works like a regular AI image maker.

After you tell the AI what tattoo you want, just wait for it to generate the results. It took me about 20 seconds.

For example, I asked it to create a tattoo of a cat and a dog. I think it turned out pretty cool and close to what I imagined. The only issue is that it merged the cat and dog together, while I wanted them sitting next to each other.

Still, this is a nice piece of art. The only drawback is that the tool doesn’t show the tattoos on skin, so it’s really just an AI art generator.

Pros

  • Free to use with no registration
  • Simple and easy to use
  • Generates designs quickly
  • Supports multiple art styles

Cons

  • Free version adds watermarks to images
  • Fewer customization options compared to other tools
  • Slower generation in the free version

Pricing

Weekly — $5.99/week

Monthly — $9.99/month

Annual — $59.99/year (25% off)
