In this post, I’m breaking down the best free AI video generators out there.
To keep things fair, I used the same test prompt across the board:
A cute cartoon robot walking through a futuristic city at sunset, waving to people, cinematic style.
Quick heads-up: plenty of tools say they’re free, but they’re not. I’ll call those out too, so you don’t waste your time.
Let’s dive in!

1. Adobe Fireflies
Adobe Fireflies has a free AI video generator.

First up, let’s head straight to each tool’s homepage to check if you can start creating even without signing up:

Found one. Looked promising.
But the moment I entered the prompt, it asked me to sign up.

No problem—if I can use it for free, I don’t mind signing up.
After signing up, I saw a message saying AI video generation is a premium feature. But good news: they give you two videos for free.

So I gave it a shot. I entered the prompt into the prompt box again:

I waited for a minute.

Here’s the result I got from it:
Even though it’s a short clip, I actually liked it. I was expecting it to be bad, honestly. AI video generation isn’t cheap, so I wouldn’t have been surprised if the tool was fully paid with zero free options.
Since the free plan included two videos, I went for another round. I used the same prompt, but this time in a TikTok/Reels style.
Here’s what I got the second time:
I tried it once more, but it only asked me to pay—just as I expected, since it promised just 2 free videos.

Still, they promised a free AI video generator, and that’s exactly what I got. It gave me a good sense of how it works and the kind of content you can make.
That said, it’s definitely limited—just two clips, and each one is only 5 seconds long.
We’re still early in this space. I think it’s going to evolve fast. Who knows, maybe in 2–3 years you’ll be able to create full movies for free.
Anyway, let’s move on to the next tool.
2. Prome AI
Next up is Prome AI—a free AI video generator that looks super promising.
Their Google reviews are glowing, and they’re advertising a free AI video tool.
Sounds like it should be a banger, right?

Conveniently, this one didn’t even ask me to sign up. It took me straight to a page where I could start creating right away:

I picked a Sci-Fi style for my video from the styles library.

Then the tool asked me to sign up before I could use it. This is a common pattern!

So I signed up and continued creating the video.

By this point, I had tested around 10 tools that claimed to be free—none of them were. So I was genuinely glad to see this one didn’t throw me onto a payment page. It just started generating the video.
Here’s what I got:
It’s a short AI clip, and yeah—it definitely looks uncanny and a bit weird. But honestly, it’s kind of impressive for a free tool.
I had to give it another shot to see if the output would be any better.
Here’s the second one I made:
To be fair, that’s a solid clip.
It didn’t include the people I mentioned in the prompt, but still—it held together for the full 5 seconds and actually looked pretty cool.
It’s not exactly what you’d expect from a top-tier AI video generator, but considering it’s free and didn’t hit me with a paywall, it’s a win compared to most of the tools I tested.
3. Artilist
Next up: Artlist.io—another tool that promises a free AI video generator.

Let’s give it a shot.
Right on the homepage, there’s a prompt box—kind of like ChatGPT—where you can type in your video idea.
But here’s the catch: this tool doesn’t turn text into video directly.
So I couldn’t use the same prompt as before. Instead, it needs an input image to get started.

So, I took the same prompt and ran it through ChatGPT to create an initial image of the scene. The plan was to use that image as the starting point for Artlist’s AI image-to-video generator.

I tried uploading the image, but then the tool hit me with a sign-up request.

So I signed up—only to find out it had deleted the image I just uploaded.

But that was just a minor inconvenience. I re-uploaded the image and used the same prompt I’ve been using throughout:

After that, I submitted the image along with the prompt to the free AI video generator and waited.
About a minute later, it sent back this image-based video:
But it turned out I can’t even download it with the free plan… Whatever!

To be honest, the video isn’t that impressive—especially if you compare it to something like Adobe. It doesn’t come close.
That said, credit where it’s due—they promised a free AI video generator, and technically, they delivered.
But let’s be real: one low-quality video you can’t even download isn’t what most people have in mind when they search for “AI video generator free.”
And the wild part? Compared to the other “free” tools out there, this was actually one of the better ones—and it’s still not great.
4. CapCut
CapCut’s known as a popular video editor—but apparently, they also offer a completely free AI video generator that turns text into video.

This looked promising—I had no idea CapCut even had a feature like this.

Let’s try it out.
First thing I noticed—CapCut isn’t a web-based tool. You have to download it. I went ahead and did that to save you the trouble.
Now, let’s see how the video creation went.

Once inside, it prompted me to choose from a few AI video features: instant AI videos, brainstorming, avatar videos, and media matching.

Honestly, none of these options felt like what I was expecting from an AI video generator. They seemed more like editing tools than actual video creation from text.
Still, I gave the Instant AI Video feature a shot and used the same prompt I’ve been testing with all the other tools:

Then it asked me to sign up.
I went ahead with it, but honestly, it was starting to get annoying. I had already downloaded the tool, and now I had to go back to their site just to sign up. I could already tell where this was heading…

After signing up, I kicked off the video creation—or rather, the AI did. All I had to do was wait about a minute.

To my surprise, I actually got something back. I was fully expecting this to be a paid tool, especially after all the steps it made me go through.

Here’s the “video” I got from CapCut AI video generator:
Alright… that was just plain bad. It gave me an AI-generated image, slapped a voiceover on it, and added some text.
Let’s be real—out of the tens of thousands of people who search for “free AI video maker” every month, I doubt anyone is expecting results like this.
And considering I had to download the software, sign up, and wait at nearly every step, this felt like a low blow. If you’re looking to make actual videos with AI, don’t waste your time with this feature.
That said, credit where it’s due—CapCut is a great video editor. It’s one of the most beginner-friendly tools out there for editing. But when it comes to AI video generation? Not it.
And just so you know, from this point forward, the results only go downhill—or don’t show up at all. There just aren’t any truly good free AI video generators out there right now. That’s the reality of it.
5. DeepAI
Next on the list we have DeepAI.

They claim to have an AI video generator you can “use for free—no login or signup required.”
At least, that’s what their homepage says on Google.
But let’s see if that holds up.
First thing I did was open their video generator page… and yep—turns out it’s a paid service.

I mean, call me crazy—but I don’t think a “free” AI video generator should cost anything. Unless it’s one of those “free once you’ve paid for it” situations. Lol.
Still, I figured maybe the paywall was just a push for more sales, and there might be a way to actually create something without paying.
So, I signed up:

Only to realize they asked for more money without giving me a chance to even try the tool for free:

I tried to get clever here and skip the screen. But it only took me further down the funnel directly to the Stripe landing page where they asked for money.

That’s it for me. I got nothing out of DeepAI’s so-called “free AI video generator.” Total waste of time.
6. Kaiber AI
Kaiber AI was the first tool on this list that I hadn’t heard of before. They offer a free trial for their Superstudio AI video generator.

So I headed over to their website to check it out.

Gotta say—the sign-up page was actually pretty cool.

I signed up and was greeted with this view:

I entered the prompt, but honestly, I was a bit confused. The layout didn’t look anything like the usual AI video generators. Made me wonder if I’d landed in the wrong place.
And just a few seconds in, the tool already hit me with a paywall.
This has to be the greediest one yet. They’re offering a “trial” that costs $5. A trial… for five bucks. What a joke.

I skipped the payment and gave it a shot anyway—tried creating a video through the chat for free.

But just as it was about to render my epic, state-of-the-art AI video… I was out of credits. Without even using one.

Let’s be real—this was a complete waste of time. Don’t bother with it. It claims to be a free video generator, but it’s not.
7. Kapwing
Kapwing is another video editing tool that claims to offer a free AI video generator.

I had to try it out. So I went to their video generator site.

I added my prompt into the video generator:

It then asked me to sign up.

And surprise, surprise, it then asked me for money before one video was created.

What a waste of time again!
8. Pika AI
Pika AI is another model built for generating AI videos. There’s a platform called Pollo AI that lets you try it out for free.

Or at least, that’s what their Google description claims. I had to give it a shot—Pollo AI is usually a solid platform.
So I dropped the prompt into the input:

It then asked me to sign up:

I was then asked to pay for the free service! That’s nice…

Yep—they asked me to pay for the “free” AI video generator. Super convenient.
Don’t get me wrong—I actually like Pollo AI a lot. I’ve made some great-looking videos with it. But those came with a price tag.
In this case, I think they just have a… different definition of “free.” That’s all.
9. Runway ML
RunwayML is another well-known AI video generator that can create ultra-realistic videos.
Pollo AI also lets you test this one for free, at least according to what they say.

I’d heard so many good things about both Pollo AI and Runway, I figured the combo had to be epic—so I had to try it.
I headed over to the Pollo AI site and dropped in the same AI video prompt I’ve been using with all the other tools:

But surprise, surprise—this “free” AI video generator wasn’t free at all. Instead, it hit me with a yearly fee in the hundreds.

Not going to happen.
If you’re hoping to use Pollo AI for free, just forget it. Most models come with a hefty monthly fee, and even then, you’re stuck using credits that’ll disappear after just a couple of clips.
10. Kreado AI
Kreado AI is another slick-looking platform that claims to offer a free AI video generator tool.

I had to give it a shot—so I went to their site and clicked “Create Free Video Now.”

I signed up:

I picked the individual plan.

After answering a few totally irrelevant questions, I finally landed on the AI video generator dashboard.

I spent about five seconds on the dashboard and realized this is just an AI presentation video generator. No creative freedom at all.
It’s basically AI voices reading off slides.
So there was no point in even trying my prompt—it wouldn’t have worked with this setup anyway.
11. Synthesia AI
Synthesia AI is another platform that claims to offer a free AI video generator, at least according to their Google listing.

The landing page looked promising too—it says you can turn text into video in minutes, for free.

I had to give it a try.
The tool did ask for payment, but it also showed a free Basic plan option—so I went with that.

I chose the Basic plan since I was here to try it for free.

It asked me to sign up.

I landed on the AI video platform dashboard page.

But I quickly realized this isn’t the kind of AI text-to-video tool most people are thinking of.
Instead, it’s a very specific slice of the AI video space—it creates presentations with AI voices, slides, and virtual actors.

The tool itself is impressive—I’ve used it before. But it’s not a free AI video generator, despite what everything leading up to it made me believe.
12. Genape
Genape is another online AI video generator that claims to be free. According to their Google page, you can use it to create videos from both text and images.

I had to try it. I signed up for the service as the first step.

It then asked me for a text prompt, so I entered the same one I’ve been using throughout this post.

It then started to process the video.

I came back 10 minutes later, and the queue was still loading. No estimated wait time, no progress bar—nothing. How long am I supposed to wait?
Eventually, I just gave up. It clearly wasn’t going to work.
So yeah—add this one to the list of “free” AI video generators that aren’t really free.
13. Zebracat
Now this had to be a gem—Zebracat claims to create free AI videos 10x faster, all online.

I went to their website.

I signed up for the service:

I answered a few irrelevant questions to get started.

They asked me to pay for the service.

Turns out, a tool that claims to create videos 10x faster for free isn’t actually creating any videos for free. What a pleasant surprise!
Thanks for Reading
If you’ve made it this far—thanks for reading.
Sorry to say, but right now, there just aren’t any truly great free AI video generators out there. And most of the ones claiming to be free? They’re not.
To be fair, I get it—these tools aren’t cheap to run. The AI models behind them are expensive, and offering them for free would hit these companies hard.
Still, if a tool isn’t actually free, maybe just don’t say it is. Simple as that.
