I tried every AI image generator to see which ones make the most realistic pictures.
Here’s a short list for busy readers:
1. Seedream 4.0
2. Nano Banana (Gemini)
3. Juggernaut Flux Pro
4. Freepik AI
5. MidJourney
6. ChatGPT (GPT-4o)
7. OpenArt Photorealistic
In this post, I’ll share what I found.
Let’s get into it!
The Test Setup
Here are the inputs I tested every single one of these image generators:
Input 1: Wildlife Close-Up
A close-up portrait of a green iguana sitting on a moss-covered tree branch in the rainforest, morning light filtering through the leaves, ultra-realistic skin texture, wet sheen on scales, sharp depth of field, cinematic natural lighting.
Input 2: Human Portrait
A portrait of an elderly woman with deep wrinkles and expressive eyes, sitting by a window with soft sunlight illuminating her face, photorealistic skin texture, natural hair strands, subtle freckles, highly detailed eyes, and cinematic photography style.
Input 3: Urban Environment
A bustling street in Tokyo at night, neon signs reflecting on wet asphalt, people walking with umbrellas, photorealistic reflections, realistic shadows and highlights, cinematic depth, highly detailed textures on buildings, and realistic street lights glow.
Next, let’s jump into the results.
1. Seedream 4.0 (ByteDance)
Seedream 4.0 is a new AI tool that lets you create and edit images all in one place.
It’s good at tricky stuff, like following reference images, handling details, and making images based on what it “knows.”
It can produce high-quality images up to 4K.
The funny thing is, just when we thought Nano Banana was the top AI image editor, this one showed up—and it’s clearly better.
Here are my results.

Prompt 2:

Prompt 3:

Notes
It took a bit to generate these—about a minute total—but the results are crazy good.
This AI image generator gets details right, like in the first image.
It can make humans that look real, not weird or uncanny.
It also handles more complex scenes with movement, like the Tokyo street view, and makes them look natural.
Honestly, this isn’t even surprising. Seedream 4.0 is said to be the biggest rival to Nano Banana, which just came out too.
The AI art world is moving so fast right now!
Honestly, this tool could be outdated by next month.
How to Try Them
Did you know you can use almost all of these AI image generators in one place?
The platform is called OpenArt.
I’ll quickly show you how it works, then we’ll get back to the other generators.
Once you’re signed up on OpenArt, click “Image” on the left.

Then, pick the AI image generator model you want to use.

You can access pretty much all the major AI image generators here.

Isn’t that handy?

But now, let’s start to go through the AI image generators.
2. Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image)
Nano Banana, part of Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image suite, makes super-realistic images from text or photos.
It’s best known for editing images, but it’s also a solid image generator—that’s why I included it here.
You can combine multiple images, make specific changes, and keep the subject looking consistent across different shots.

Prompt 1:

Prompt 2:

Prompt 3:

Notes
The results are very impressive and detailed, and it only takes about 30–40 seconds.
The iguana image looks great, but honestly, it feels more like a painting than a real photo. I think Nano Banana is better for editing than creating images from scratch.
The older lady’s image is smooth. It’s not as sharp as the one from Seedream 4.0, but it’s still pretty close.
In the Tokyo image, I like that the faces aren’t completely messed up. Still, if you zoom in or look closely, they don’t look totally natural.
Like I said, this tool is best for editing, not creating new images.
If you have pictures that need a final touch or some polishing, Nano Banana will handle that really well.
3. Juggernaut Flux Pro (RunDiffusion)
Juggernaut Flux Pro is the flagship model in RunDiffusion’s Juggernaut FLUX lineup.
It produces very realistic images with sharper details and more natural textures.
You can create high-resolution images up to 1536×1536 pixels.
Here’s what I got when I tried it!
My Results
Prompt 1:

Prompt 2:

Prompt 3:

Notes
This one did really well too.
From these three tests, it actually holds up against the best models on the list.
The iguana looks very realistic. Just like a stock photo you could find online.
The old lady is sharp and detailed. To me, this one is just as good as the other top tools here.
For the Tokyo image, I wish I had used a higher resolution. But even so, it still looks like a real photo taken in the city at night.
To save some time (and money), I didn’t use the highest quality settings for the rest of these models, since the top 5 are already well known.
4. Freepik AI Image Generator
Freepik AI Suite is an all-in-one AI platform for creating and editing audiovisual content, including images, video, and audio.
The Freepik AI Image Generator is part of this suite and gives you access to the latest and most advanced AI image models (including Google Nano Banana, Seedream 4.5, Flux.5, Recraft V4, and more) all in one subscription.
The tool is designed for creators, marketers, and designers who need high-quality images for social media, advertising, product mockups, and marketing campaigns.
Once you generate an image, you can refine it using built-in editing tools like the Image Upscaler to boost resolution, Skin Enhancer for texture refinement, or change camera angles and remove unwanted objects with AI. You can also turn images into videos using multiple AI video models, or add voiceovers and sound effects using the audio tools, all without leaving the platform.
My Results
Prompt 1:

Prompt 2:

Prompt 3:

Notes
Generation speed is reasonable, typically taking 25-30 seconds per image.
The iguana image came out really impressive. The scale detail is sharp, the texture looks natural, and the depth of field gives it that professional photography feel. This could easily pass as a stock photo.
The elderly woman’s portrait is solid. The wrinkles, eye details, and skin texture all look realistic. The soft window lighting works perfectly here. It’s definitely one of the better portrait results I’ve seen across these generators.
The Tokyo street scene handles the complexity well. The neon reflections on the wet pavement look convincing, and the overall atmosphere feels authentic. There’s a “TOKYO NIGHT” text in the center that seems like an overlay, but aside from that, the lighting, signage, and street details hold up.
What makes Freepik stand out isn’t just the image generator—it’s the ecosystem. I can generate an image, edit it, remove the background, create a video from it, and add AI-generated voiceovers or music without switching platforms. For marketing teams cranking out multiple content types on tight deadlines, that’s huge.
The interface is straightforward, so you don’t need to be an AI expert to use it. The credit system takes some getting used to, though. Advanced models eat up more credits, so you’ll need to balance quality with volume depending on your plan.
If you need both photorealistic images and access to complementary tools (editing, video, audio), Freepik is a solid option. It consolidates functions that would otherwise require separate subscriptions.
5. MidJourney
Midjourney is a popular AI tool that turns text into realistic images.
You use it on Discord by typing in descriptions of scenes, objects, or ideas.
It has different versions like V5, V6, and V7 that make images sharper and more detailed.
You can adjust images with options like —style raw, or use Style and Character References to keep things consistent.
It can even turn images into short videos, giving you more ways to get creative.

Prompt 3:

Notes
This one gave me the loudest “WOW” reaction.
I remember first hearing about this AI image generator back in 2022. Even then, it was insanely impressive.
Now that I tried it again, it’s even better.
The iguana image looks amazing. The detail and clarity are just crazy. At the same time, it’s a bit more artistic, not fully photo-realistic.
The same goes for the old lady image. It looks somewhat real, but it also has an artistic touch and stands out from the other images I made.
The Tokyo image shows this perfectly. It’s a mix of photo-realism and a painting/3D rendering vibe.
I noticed MidJourney is often called an AI art generator rather than a photorealistic tool. And I totally agree.
I still wanted to include it here because the results are absolutely mind-blowing, even though AI-generated images aren’t new anymore.
6. ChatGPT (GPT-4o)
OpenAI’s GPT-4o is a multimodal AI that works with text, video, audio, and images.
It’s great at following prompts, generating accurate text, and using its knowledge to make realistic images.
My Results
Prompt 1:

Prompt 2:

Prompt 3:

Notes
The ChatGPT image generator surprised me the most on the list.
The iguana image came out very smooth.
It kind of looks like a 3D render instead of a real photo.
The old lady looks super realistic, though.
Maybe even a little too smooth to be real. But there’s barely any weirdness.
The Tokyo image isn’t great for photorealism.
It looks more like a painting. Of course, you could try different prompts, but I just gave each tool one shot.
ChatGPT is cool because you can try it free for a few images.
You’re probably already using it, so why not test it with images too?
It can also edit images pretty well.
Before Nano Banana and Seedance 4.0, I called it the best AI image editor.
It’s still top 3 in my opinion.
7. OpenArt PhotoRealistic
OpenArt Photorealistic is OpenArt’s AI for making super-realistic images from text.
It’s great for marketing, product mockups, stories, and more.
The model is fast and easy to use.
It gives photo-quality images with realistic lighting, textures, and details.

Prompt 2:

Prompt 3:

Notes
This one was one of the first on the list that didn’t give great results.
If you compare all three AI images to other tools, you can see they look pretty different.
The iguana has weird colors. Never seen one like that!
The lady’s face looks like a wax model. The curtain behind her looks like a fishnet.
The Tokyo street image is way too saturated and fake.
It almost looks like a 3D render.
The people in it are doing weird things with their legs too.
This one is still good, and a couple of years ago it would have blown my mind.
But now, it just doesn’t cut it anymore.
8. Flux Kontext Max
Flux Kontext Max, from Black Forest Labs, is an AI for making detailed, realistic images from text.
It creates photorealistic visuals that stay consistent, which is great for storytelling, marketing, and other projects.
You can give it long scripts or detailed descriptions, and it will make a series of images that all match the same style and story.
It handles tricky visual details really well.
One of the best things is speed.
Instead of waiting 30–60 seconds, it does it in just a few seconds.

Prompt 2:

Prompt 3:

Notes
From here on, I won’t go over each image separately.
The quality of these AI generators starts to drop a bit anyway.
But this one is really fast, and the results are impressive.
Back in 2022, you’d have to wait 10–15 minutes for images like this.
Now it takes just a few seconds.
9. STOIQO NewReality (ALIENHAZE)
STOIQO NewReality is a modern AI for making photo-like images.
It can create detailed portraits, stunning landscapes, and even mythical creatures.
The results are pretty accurate and offer a lot of variety.

Prompt 3:

Notes
Here you can clearly see we’re moving out of the top 10.
These images would have been amazing 2–3 years ago.
Now, they just look like cheap AI-generated shots—which, honestly, they are.
10. AlbedoBase-XL (albedobond)
AlbedoBase-XL, from AlbedoBond, makes photorealistic images from text.
It handles fine details and natural color gradients really well.
It’s supposed to be great at creating lifelike visuals with accurate lighting and textures.

But they don’t come close to what the top tools can do.
11. Juggernaut XL (KandooAI)

Notes
Other than the last image, these look pretty good to me.
The definition is a bit low since I didn’t use AI upscaling. If I had, they’d look a little better.
Still, you can clearly see it’s not even close to the best one in the bunch.

Notes
Other than the last image, these turned out pretty good.
They all look a bit blurry since I didn’t use AI upscaling.
If I had, they’d be a little sharper.
Even so, it’s clear this one isn’t the best in the bunch.
14. CyberRealistic (cyberdelia)
CyberRealistic, from cyberdelia, focuses on photorealistic images of natural and urban scenes.
It really brings out texture and clarity.
It’s great for making realistic visuals with a cyberpunk vibe.
Now, let’s see if it actually delivers.

Notes
The results are okay, but there’s a weird uncanniness in all of them.
The iguana has a strange look and posture, which gives it away right away.
The lady looks realistic, but her earrings are very odd.
And then there’s the Tokyo image.
When there are lots of people—or objects in general—older AI models start to “round corners” and make them look weird.

RealVisXL V4.0, from SG161222, makes lifelike images with consistent realism.
It pays close attention to lighting and textures.
