AI isn’t just about writing anymore, it has entered the music industry too. You can now generate your own songs in seconds.

I tested ElevenMusic from ElevenLabs and will show you some key features, as well as pros and cons. I’ll also disclose the usage rights for your generated music.

Let’s dive in!

How to Use It and My Experience

Here is how to get started with ElevenLabs, go to their website. You can find the music generator on the front page or by clicking on the drop-down menu “Creative Platform”.

Click on “Get Started” and sign up.

As an individual creator, I chose the Creative Platform, but you can switch between the platforms whenever.

And here is your dashboard.

Start generating your music by describing it with a prompt. You can customize the duration of the track and also the number of variants generated. You can also select whether the tool will generate the lyrics for your tracks automatically or insert your own lyrics.

You can generate as many new tracks as you wish and make modifications in a conversational manner.

The track is divided into sections, and you can modify the duration of the sections, or remove and change the order of them as you like.

Here are the lyrics of my sample tracks, divided into structural elements, like Pre-Chorus, Chorus, etc. You can edit the lyrics to your liking.

These are the lyrics ElevenLabs generated from my prompt “A Christmas song with a trap beat”, I find them kinda clever and funny. Even with this very vague prompt, a full, coherent track was created. The more specific you are in your prompt, the better.

Pros

  • High-quality music with vocals
  • Customizable with text prompts
  • Commercial rights with the paid plans
  • Supports multiple languages

Cons

  • Lyrics can be a bit generic
  • Editing options for track sections are limited. You can’t adjust the volume or manually add more bass

Pricing

Here are the current pricing plans of ElevenLabs.

  • Starter: $5/month
  • Creator: $11/month
  • Pro: $99/month

Usage Rights

I’ve summarised what their website says about the pricing.

The Free plan doesn’t come with a commercial licence, so if you are publishing content created with it, you must disclose ElevenLabs in the title.

ElevenLabs has a “No-Go Voices” feature, which limits the generation of sounds that mimic the voices of political figures.

Can use:

  • Commercial use (with paid plans)
  • Background music for your podcasts, blogs, or any other kind of content

Can’t use:

  • Content created with the Free plan, you can share it non-commercially if you attribute it to ElevenLabs
  • Spotify or Apple Music release: only if you modify them and have the Artist plan
  • Content created with Beta Services

To Take Home

ElevenLabs is a popular AI Audio platform that comes with features like AI Voice cloning and Voice Changer.

I tested the AI Music Generator feature, which allows you to generate full music tracks from scratch, with only a text prompt. The tracks even come with vocals, or if you are a lyrical genius, you can insert your own lyrics. There are multiple genres and themes available, and the generated tracks are highly customizable. The generated lyrics can be edited to your liking, but they do sound a bit generic. The voice sounds quite natural, though and you can customize it with prompts.

I was pleased with my brief experience with the free trial of ElevenMusic and the ease of generating tracks with it. You own the commercial rights to the content you generate, although the exact rights may vary depending on your subscription plan. I recommend reading through the legal information on the Help Center before publishing or downloading your music.
