Flux Kontext Max Review: Best AI Images-with-Text Generator?

Flux Kontext Max is the premium version of the Flux Kontext model I reviewed earlier.

It builds on the Pro model and pushes prompt accuracy, typography edits, and visual consistency to the next level without slowing down.

Key features

  • Top-level adherence to your edit instructions.
  • Strong handling of text within images (typography).
  • Maintains consistency even through complex, multi-step editing.
  • High speed with high fidelity.

Best use

Best for projects that need precise edits, especially ones involving text (like signage, labels, or titles).

Ideal when you need to batch-generate cohesive scenes, maintain character or style consistency, or handle complicated visuals with ease.

My results

I tested Flux Kontext Max to see if it delivers on the promise.

The first image I created is “A family portrait of a couple standing in front of a quaint bookshop at twilight.”

Here’s the result:

Now, let’s see how well the AI can edit this photo we just created.

I told the AI to create an edited version of the above photo with these instructions: “Change the sign above the shop to ‘Flux Books’, add soft glowing lights, and place a cat sitting by the door — keep everything else the same.”

Here’s the result:

That’s decent.

However, if we do a side-by-side comparison, this model didn’t just make the changes we wanted but it edited a whole bunch more. That is not good since I wanted to have the image remain otherwise the same.

Here’s a side-by-side comparison:

It’s decent, but not too impressive. There are better AI image editors than this.

Let me actually show one.

Google just released Nano Banana AI, which is an AI image generator and editor (I’ll show it in greater detail later). You can also access this model from OpenArt.

Let me show you a side-by-side comparison between the original AI image and the edited image when using Nano Banana:

That’s so much better.

Here, the edited image remains the same as before, and now the only parts that changed are the ones I wanted.

One thing Flux Kontext Max is really good with is text edits.

For example, here’s an image I created where it says “I love cats”:

But now, instead of saying “I love cats”, I want it to say “I love dogs”, while keeping everything else the same.

Here’s the result:

Isn’t that cool? The boy looks more or less the same as before. But now the text has changed.

One thing I notice with a lot of AI image generators is that the more the distance is from the object to the “camera”, the worse the edits are.

If you have a close-up headshot, you can do insanely accurate edits to it without changing the face. But if the face is 100 ft away from the camera, the edits will morph the face to something completely different.
