Flux Kontext Review: Best Character Consistency AI?

Flux Kontext is part of the Flux family of image models.

This model is for both creating images and editing them.

You can upload a picture and ask it to change something, such as clothes, background, or colors, and it will do that while keeping the rest of the image the same.

  • Great for adjusting details, swapping props, or keeping the same person across different scenes.

My results

This AI model is good for editing photos while keeping the character consistency.

So I started by creating an image of “A portrait of a young woman in a red jacket standing in Times Square at night.”

Here’s the result:

I then tested the character consistency by creating another image of this same person with a different outfit.

I used this prompt: “Make the jacket blue” in the chat view:

Here’s the result:

As you can see, it’s nearly identical. Only very subtle changes in the appearance.

The reason this is big is that AI traditionally tends to completely miss character consistency and create different-looking people in images. But clearly, this model doesn’t miss that.

Let’s try another run.

This time, I told the AI to: “Turn the night to day”.

Here’s the result:

Hmm… That’s not what I wanted.

I tried again, and it still gave me something like this:

Yes, the character looks the same and the image looks good, but it’s not daytime in the image…

I’ll try another route.

This time, I will just upload one of the result images back to OpenArt instead of using the chat and try that way.

Here’s the result:

That’s a lot better.

However, if you didn’t already notice, the character consistency started to wear off.

If you compare the 5th result with the 1st one, those models look entirely different.

So maybe I don’t know how to use it, but to me, the character consistency seems impressive only if you do small edits. But if you change the context, it will totally change the person’s look.

Here’s one more total change of environment, as I told the AI to “Make her play soccer in a packed stadium”.

It’s impressive, but you can clearly see that the character doesn’t look exactly the same between these images.
