I’ve tried a lot of AI video generators, but there’s one that doesn’t get much attention—and I think it’s the most impressive.
It’s called HeyGen AI.
This tool can clone your voice and make you say anything in any language.
Let me show you my results and how to do it!

How to Clone Yourself with AI

To use HeyGen AI, sign up here first.

First, you’ll see an AI avatar speaking—so realistic, you wouldn’t guess it’s AI. This is actually an AI clone of the co-founder of this amazing video generator.

You can skip the intro if you want, then just answer a few quick questions.

Now, let’s get to the fun part: creating your AI clone.
First, go to the main dashboard (you’ll land there after signing up) and click “Create Instant Avatar.”

These days, you can actually do all of this for free. Last year, it was still a fully paid tool.
After that, you’ll see instructions on what to do next.

In short, you need to record a 2–5 minute clip of yourself with:
- Good lighting
- A quiet space
- Natural gestures (below chest level)
- Clear pauses between sentences
- A high-res camera (I used my iPhone)
- Direct eye contact with the camera

Next, upload the clip to HeyGen AI Video Generator. It will take a little time for the AI to create a clone of you.

This usually takes around 15 minutes. You’ll get an email once your AI clone is ready, so you don’t have to just sit there and wait.

After around 15 minutes, I got a notification from the team that my AI avatar was ready.
Here’s what it looks like:

Click on your avatar! It will play a short, fun introduction video.

When I saw it for the first time, I honestly couldn’t believe it.
If it wasn’t someone close to me, they’d never guess it was AI—pretty cool, and a little scary too.
Now, let’s put the AI clone to work. Go to HeyGen’s main view and click “Create with AI Studio.”

There are two main steps here:
First, add a script—either choose one from the left panel, generate one with AI, or paste your own.

Don’t forget to add your avatar to read the script!
Click “Avatar” on the left, select yours, and add it to the editor. You can zoom in or out to resize it as needed.
A heads-up: You can’t preview the full video before the AI renders it. The preview button only reads the script aloud with your voice.
Since video creation is resource-intensive, double-check everything before rendering:
- Your AI avatar is visible and spans the full script duration.
- Your voice clone is activated. Then, just click the avatar to select the right voice. You can also change the voice while keeping your avatar in the scene.

Make sure the script is correct and sounds natural when read.
(You can also change the language if you want.)
When everything looks good, click the “Submit” button.

This part takes a little time while HeyGen works its magic, using AI to render the video.
Don’t worry—you’ll get a notification once the video is ready, so you can do something else while you wait.

Once the video is ready, you can watch it in the editor or download it to view on your device.
Curious how realistic it is? Check out mine—I compare the real me with my AI clone right at the beginning!
I think these AI clones are amazing, especially since they can make me speak in different languages. That’s really cool!
The process does take a little time—it took me about 45 minutes from signing up to see my first video.
The technology is still a bit pricey, too. In my plan, it costs around $30 for 5–10 minutes of video.
The process does take a bit of time, though. It took me about 45 minutes from signing up to see my first video.
Pros
- The AI is incredibly realistic. The videos look lifelike, with smooth speech and natural gestures.
- AI cloning is impressive. The clone looks just like you—only you and maybe your closest friends would notice the difference.
- You can try the tool for free, though creating a full AI clone does cost money.
- The platform is simple and to the point. The editor, voice actors, and AI avatars are easy to use.
- Clear guidelines and instructions make it easy to get started.
Cons
- Can get expensive. The tool is free to try, but paid plans are pricey if you want to use it a lot.
- Slow at times. Creating a 60-second video took 5–10 minutes.
- Not ideal for my content workflow. It works well, but it’s slower and more expensive than just recording a video myself.

To Take Home
I really love HeyGen.
Even though I’ve tested plenty of AI tools, I had no idea how much AI avatar technology had improved in just the past year.
I sent the clips to my friends and family, and they couldn’t believe their eyes. Definitely give it a try!
The language feature was especially epic—I was suddenly speaking fluent Spanish like it was nothing!
But here’s the honest truth: I don’t think this speeds up my content creation process. It’s actually pretty slow. To create a 10-minute talking-head video, I’d be looking at hours of waiting and $20–$40. For me, it’s faster and cheaper to just film it myself in 10 minutes.
Of course, it all depends on your use case. If you want to automate presentations and videos while keeping them realistic, then it’s definitely worth the wait and the price.
Like most AI tools, it’s amazing for demos, but it’s expensive, slow, and not always directly applicable to every workflow.
