How to Create a Digital Business Card with a QR Code

Ever been to a networking event and fumbled for a business card?

Imagine sharing your contact details instantly with just a QR code scan.

In this post, I will show you how to create, design, customize, and share your own QR code business card.

For example, here’s one I created in 5 minutes:

You don’t need any technical skills to do this.

Let’s dive in!

Step-by-Step Guide

In this guide, I’ll use the most complete QR code platform I’ve tested: QRCodeChimp.

(Keep in mind that QRCodeChimp isn’t just for business cards — it also supports downloads, websites, product pages, pet IDs, and more.)

Step 1: Open QRCodeChimp

First, open QRCodeChimp.com.

You should see a view like this:

Step 2: Choose a Digital Business Card

Pick a QR code use case from the top bar.

I picked the Digital Business Cards option for the purpose of this tutorial.

Step 3: Pick a template

Next, QRCodeChimp asks you to create a digital business card from scratch.

This is easy, though. Just use the templates and follow the guidelines.

Start by choosing a page template.

I chose the minimalistic one:

Step 4: Create Profile

Create a profile for your online business card.

This information is shared on your business card, so make sure it’s accurate and relevant.

You can also add more fields as you need.

On top of that, you can also customize form settings and choose from pre-designed form templates.

This makes it even easier to get started.

Fill in all the necessary details your professional business card needs.

If you don’t want all these, though, you can hit Delete on any fields.

My card starts to look good now:

I added my basic information with some social links. I removed the address and call-to-us option.

Step 5: Collect Contacts (optional)

If you want to, you can create a contact form that lets you collect your prospect’s contact details.

This is possible in the Content section at the bottom of the page.

Once you click that, you can choose from a template or create a new one.

I found it handy to use an existing template, because there are lots of templates for different use cases.

If you select the Show Inline option, your contact form will show inside the contact card.

This is useful because now you can not only share your details but people can automatically find you and send their contact details your way.

Step 6: Design it

Now that the business card information is in place, it’s time to change the outlook.

Once again, this is super easy because of the templates and built-in design options.

Just click the “Design/Settings” tab to proceed.

I like the beige style, so I went with it.

You can customize everything here. Just click the plus icons to add a new design customization.

Step 7: Pick a QR style

Then, you can choose a QR code style from a library of different styles as opposed to using the traditional one.

It’s crazy how many customization options you have here!

You can choose a custom shape for the QR.

You can pick a pre-built one as well.

You can insert your QR into a sticker.

You can customize the colors:

Heck, you can even customize the QR code shapes.

You can add a logo to the QR code. You can choose an existing logo, or you can upload your own.

Lastly, you can also customize your image with a QR code.

I love these customization options. These let you stand out, and you can quite literally do everything you might imagine here.

When customizing your QR code, keep in mind that people are most familiar with the traditional black-and-white format.

While you have tons of customization options (shapes, colors, logos), going too extreme may make your QR code harder to scan. If you want to create the perfect QR code design, check out this guide: How to Make a Perfect QR Code Design.

Nonetheless, I love the versatility of the platform.

Step 8: Save

Then, save your QR code and give it a name.

Step 9: Use it

Once you’ve saved your QR code, it’s live. Now you can share it.

On top of using it as a QR code, you can also share a link to the business card.

When someone scans your QR code or clicks the link, they’ll see your digital business card.

Here’s how it looks on desktop and mobile:

And here’s the same card on Mobile:

You can also use the embed option.

This is a small piece of code that you can insert on a website to render your business card.

For example, I shared mine in one of my blogs:

You can also use your QR code in an email signature.

Just click on the Email Signature feature.

Choose a signature style and use it.

You can also click the “How to use in” option to see how you can add the signature to the popular email providers, that is, Gmail and Outlook.

Heck, you can even share your business card as an NFC card — so you can just tap your card on someone’s phone to share your details instantly.

Step 10: Check number of card visitors

One thing I love about QRCodeChimp is that it lets you see analytics.

This allows you to see how many people have scanned your QR code and visited the content behind it. You get to see device types, origin country, number of unique visitors vs. repeating, and more.

To do this, open your QRCodeChimp dashboard.

Then click on “View Scan Analytics.”

For example, it shows that 4 people have scanned my business card’s QR code.

Also, it shows that 50% of the scans took place from iPhones and 50% from Macs. Also, it shows that every scan took place in Finland.

That’s how you create a successful business card with a QR code, analytics, and everything.

Now it’s your turn! Create your digital business card today and share it effortlessly.

Let me know how it goes! 🙂
