How to Use AI to Create a Presentation from Scratch

Let me show you how to create an epic presentation using AI. The tool that I’ll be using in this one is called GenPPT.

It creates AI presentations from simple text inputs. You can talk to your slides.

#1 Start GenPPT

First, head over to the GenPPT website.

Click “Get started” to start making your first presentation using AI. This will open up the app that looks like this:

Click “New Presentation” to start creating.

#2 Talk to the AI

It will open up a view like this, where you can tell the AI what kind of presentation you want to create. Just use text as if you were talking to a real person.

For example, I created my first AI presentation about programming. More specifically, the history of programming.

Once you’ve written down the topic, hit “Generate with AI”. This starts the AI presentation generator. It takes about 30 seconds for the AI to make your presentation.

#3 Complete the Structure

After about half a minute, you will see the presentation skeleton that the AI whipped up. This is not the ready-made presentation, but this shows the structure and text that will be used in the presentation.

To change things around, click the text boxes. It allows you to edit the text contents of the presentation slides.

If there’s a slide you don’t like, you can just delete it with a click of a button.

You can move slides around by clicking the six dots on the left of each slide.

Also, you can add more slides at the bottom of the page by clicking “Add Slide”.

#4 Generate

Once you’re ready with the structure and have made your edits, click “Generate”.

This takes about 30 seconds again. It renders the full-blown presentation for you based on the inputs of the last section.

After the wait, here’s your AI-generated presentation.

Isn’t that handy?

#5 Edit the Presentation

But it’s not just that. On top of creating the slides, you can obviously edit those to make them meet your demands.

By clicking the elements visible in the view, you can activate them.

Then you can move those around, resize, and such.

With text, you can change the fonts, colors, and more.

Also, the design elements are movable and customizable.

Speaking of the design elements, you can add more shapes to the slideshows and presentations if you want to. I usually don’t touch these, because they don’t end up looking as cool as the preset designs, lol.

Also, you can add media to your slideshows. Currently, it supports images from Unsplash and your images that you can drag and drop into the view.

To use the Unsplash images, you can search for something. This can be useful if you don’t have images of your own but want to make the presentation a bit nicer.

Once you’ve loaded the images into the presentation, you can customize those too. You can change the shape, fill settings, and, for example, round the corners. Once again, this happens by clicking the image and tweaking the settings that appear below.

If you don’t like the preset AI-generated background color of your presentation, feel free to change it by clicking the brush icon.

For example, here’s a gradient that I applied to my presentation. It’s handy because it applies the color to all the pages.

To get rid of the background colors, click “Reset Background”.

Don’t forget that there’s a layering system in place in GenPPT AI presentations.

This means everything is customizable and lives on its own layer.

This is useful if you move things around and want to place elements on top of one another in a visually pleasing way.

#6 Check Facts

Now, let’s look at the slides for a second. Here’s an example slide I got from GenPPT.

It’s visually pleasing, and there’s not a lot of text… Which is exactly the point of a presentation, right?

But to make your AI presentation count, read it through carefully. The AI is always a dice roll. You want to ensure accurate information that’s interesting to listen to.

The AI takes you from a blank page to a nice-looking presentation with basic content. But it’s your experience and expertise that takes it to the next level.

I think GenPPT is pretty accurate, though. I did some random checks to be sure.

For example, in one AI-generated slide, it says Python was created in 1991.

So I had to check it on Google to be sure.

That’s right!

Isn’t it awesome? It’s easy to use, fast, and creates good-looking presentations without you having to do all the work.

My Take

An AI presentation generator like GenPPT is best if you know about your topic. The AI will save you a lot of work with designs, customizations, and scraping the basic knowledge.

But then it’s your task to make it count. Make the presentation interesting by adding your insights, experiences, and expertise.

If I had to create a presentation about something I have no idea about, I could do that with AI, for sure. But when it comes to presenting, it wouldn’t be much of a use because I don’t know anything to add to that.

So don’t use this to cheat in school! That’s not the idea here. I’d use this for business purposes to get you from A to B without all the hassle.
