How to Use It

Let me show you how to get started with Jenni AI. Go to their website here. Click on “Start Writing” to access the Free plan.

After signing up with your email or Google account, you should land here. Now you are ready to start writing!

My Experience

I’ll show you the key features of Jenni AI and test them out, at least the features included in the Free plan.

Jenni AI is focused on the writing phase and will help you tackle your writer’s block with its autocomplete and AI text generation features.

You can start writing from scratch, or ask the AI to write for you using a prompt. Just describe your project briefly, and Jenni will let you know if your prompt is too vague. You can also import your own document directly into the Writer.

Here’s the output: first, you’ll get the outline of your paper, without any text. From here, you can either continue writing yourself, or let the AI generate the text for you, paragraph by paragraph. The AI will add citations in the text when needed.

The AI will also update your list of references as it writes, using your preferred citation style. This feature is available on the paid plan only.

If you’re not satisfied with the text generated, you can ask the AI to edit or improve the text with AI Edit. Here I asked the AI to “Strengthen argument”.

Another feature of Jenni is the Reference Library. You can import your own reference list or individual articles, and the AI will provide more targeted suggestions based on those papers.

The AI Chat is a feature that lets you interact with the AI in real time. It can assist you with research questions, writing, and much more.

Pros

  • Manages your citations and can make suggestions based on them
  • Best for writing assistance
  • Easy to use, simple

Cons

  • No literature search feature
  • I recommend validating the citations by hand
  • No Word, Google Docs or LaTex integrations

Pricing

To Take Home

I’ve reviewed Jenni AI before for general AI-assisted writing, but this time I’m focusing on its research-focused features. Jenni AI is strong in writing assistance, providing suggestions for edits and grammar and autocompleting your text if you feel stuck. The interactive AI chat can help you with tailoring research questions or just brainstorming ideas. Jenni AI was also far simpler to use than some other tools, thanks to fewer features. You can also use Jenni for free, with some limitations. So if you are not the most productive writer, looking for a basic writing assistance, Jenni is a great tool for you.

It does lack the literature search feature that other similar tools might have. So for academic writing assistance, it’s a solid tool. But for the whole process of submitting a paper or a manuscript includes many other steps, especially going through research articles, which you have to do manually with Jenni AI.
