My Experience with Aiarty Matting

I purchased the paid plan for Aiarty Matting to show you what it does and whether you should use it.

If you want to see the results, feel free to read along. But if you want to, you can also try it free and use this as a guide.

To use Matting, head over to this page and download a trial.

Once you’ve activated the trial (or purchased a plan), you can use the software.

This is the default view:

You can drag and drop or choose an image by clicking the arrow button.

I dragged and dropped an old image of me to the view:

Then I clicked start to start the AI matting process with the default settings and models. (If you want to change those, feel free to revise the AI model and Hardware on the top right.)

It took a while for the AI to render the matting process. I’ve traditionally used free tools for this that just take a second or two. But that comes at a cost of not-so-good quality results.

Here’s what the Aiarty Matting before-after looks like for my image.

As you can see, it’s quite impressive. The detail of matting is good compared to those free tools that kind of get the job done but still leave a lot to improve.

Aiarty Matting is not just a background remover tool, though, even though it is one of the main functions.

You can change the background to a color or your custom background image easily.

Depending on the image, you can also create a mask that leaves a silhouette of the AI-matted object in the view. You can then fill in this gap with something else.

One thing I liked was the Blur option. (You can play with these settings on the right-hand side feature panel.)

Because the image of me has a forest background, there’s quite a bit happening there. That’s where I could use the Blur feature to change the original background to have less contrast.

There are different blur modes too! For example, there’s motion blur which might be appropriate for images where you want to create a sensation of rapid movement. For my image, it’s not good but at least it works!

Then you can also easily turn your background into black and white.

Oh, and I almost forgot one thing — a close-up shot of the AI matting result. Please, have a look at this result:

What amazes me is the precision of the matting. The AI detected even those individual hairs on my head and distinguished them from the background.

That is insanely good.

Just as a comparison, let’s see how well a free tool does this:

That’s not even close to Aiarty Matting. The quality is trash and the result while being accurate isn’t as detailed as the paid AI!

Here’s another image to compare:

Even though the hair is dark and melts into the background, the AI matting feature was able to remove the person from the background perfectly.

This is as good as it gets! Yes, you can get close with free tools, but not at this level, for sure. I love it!

Now, let me show you how to change the background for your images. First, drag and drop an image to the view and press “Start” to do the matting. This is what we did already.

Once this is done, you see the before-after images just like before.

Then click on the “Background” option on the right and choose the image icon from the options that open up:

Click the image icon and choose a background.

For example, here’s a new background I chose:

Pros

  • Extremely accurate. I don’t think AI can get any better. The Matting tool by Aiarty removes objects from the background with a near 100% precision.
  • Easy to use. Just download the tool, drag and drop the image to the view, and start!
  • Image editing modes. You can apply edits to your backgrounds and objects in your images easily with the built-in features.
  • Free trial. Despite being a downloadable piece of software, there is a free trial you can try before committing to a paid plan!

Cons

  • Similar free tools exist. If you don’t care about the result accuracy, you can just as well use free tools for thumbnails and blog posts. However, if you do product images or ads, I don’t recommend free tools because the results simply look cheap.
  • Pricing. One could argue that changing the background with a tool that costs $99 is a bit costly. And yes, that is true if you just want a quick background change for a thumbnail, invitation, or something not so formal.

Pricing

  • Standard: $49/year
  • Lifetime: $75 one-time
  • Commercial: $1,999
