My wife and I spent $4,000+ on AI headshot generators to find out which tools are the best.
In this post, I will share our results and top picks.
I’ll show both of our results to give a better idea of how these turn out for men vs. women.
We tested free AI headshot generators, paid ones, selfie generators, LinkedIn headshot creators, team headshots, and more.

But now, let’s jump into the detailed reviews.
1. BetterPic

BetterPic is my favorite AI headshot generator.
And my wife likes this one too, as she placed it as her #2 pick.
This one gave me the best results and the most flexibility for customizing AI headshots.
The customization options are impressive, and the best part is the human editing feature. A real editor fine-tunes your photos to make sure they actually look like you (available with the Expert plan).
My Experience
Before I show my results, let me show you how easy it is to use.
First, sign up here and read these instructions.
I bought the Expert plan to get the human edits option on my headshots. I’ll cover that in just a second.

Start by adding your name, ethnicity, use cases, gender, and eye color.

Pick a bunch of styles for your headshots.

Choose all 3 options to get the most accurate results and versatility. I recommend going with the most popular/recommended headshot styles.

Before uploading your images, make sure to read the image instructions carefully.
This is the most important step because it’s how you show the AI what you actually look like.
You’re basically training the AI headshot generator so it can place you in different settings and styles more accurately.
Use photos with different lighting, outfits, and poses to give the AI a complete picture of your appearance.

Here are my real selfies:

These were just regular photos of me from my camera roll, taken over the years.
The hardest part was actually going through my camera roll to find enough usable images.
Once I uploaded them, the AI headshot generator checked their quality and filtered out any that were too low in resolution.
This part can take a bit of time since you need a good number of clear, high-quality photos for the AI to perform well.
After that, it was finally time to generate my AI headshots.

It took roughly 30 minutes to create 100 images of me.
Here are some of the results I got from it:

That always makes me smile, even though I’ve seen my AI headshots a bunch of times now.
Here are more AI headshots of me:

I wouldn’t say every image turned out perfect.
Like BetterPic mentions on the results page, most look great, some are just okay, and a few miss the mark a bit.
For example, in this one, there are small artifacts on my face and teeth. They’re minor, but you can spot them if you look closely.

The cool part of BetterPic is that you can fix those AI artifacts easily and somewhat accurately. Of course, it doesn’t do magic and can’t read your thoughts.
Just click on the BP AI Edit button.

You can request a manual edit from the BetterPic team to make the image look exactly like you.
Of course, don’t expect miracles. You can’t ask them to do the impossible.
But a real human editor gives you far more flexibility than the usual AI-only edits (or no edits at all, like with most other AI headshot generators).

That’s handy, especially for a team looking for uniform images across the board. For example, look at this AI headshot that I got from BetterPic:

It looks nice, but I’d like to change my clothes…
That’s not an issue when using BetterPic because of the customization features.
To change the clothes of one of your AI headshots, all you need to do is choose an image and click “BP AI Edit”.

Choose the “Clothing” option from the AI edits.
For example, I picked a Christmas outfit:

Then, after about 5–10 minutes of waiting, I got 4 images of that original AI headshot where I have Christmas-style clothing.
Here are the results:

That’s awesome! It’s the same photo as before, but now it’s all dressed up for Christmas.
I liked it so much that I wanted to try a few more things.
So, I asked the AI to put me in a dark suit and also to dress me as a doctor.
Here’s what it came up with:

This AI is seriously impressive.
The other tweaks are fun too. For example, you can make your AI headshots bigger.
This AI headshot looks good overall, but it’s a little too zoomed in for my taste.

To fix this, all I had to do was use the AI expand feature from the AI edits.
By doing this, the AI headshot generator added some more space to the top of the image.

I wouldn’t say every image turned out perfectly.
Like BetterPic mentions on the results page, most look great, some are just okay, and a few miss the mark a bit.
For example, in this one, there are small artifacts on my face and teeth. They’re minor, but you can spot them if you look closely.
I wouldn’t say every image came out perfectly.
Like BetterPic points out on the results page, most look great, some are just okay, and a few don’t quite land.
For example, in this one, there are small artifacts on my face and teeth. They’re barely noticeable, but you can see them if you look closely.

The team feature is great.
There’s an Admin view where you can invite your team members to create their headshots.
You can choose one shared style for everyone or let them pick their own.
Once everyone’s done, all the headshots appear in the Admin view for you.
It makes the whole process super easy — no need to chase people for their photos.
Overall, I really like BetterPic.
The biggest issue with many AI headshot tools is that the results are usually a 6/10 or 7/10, and you can’t fix them afterward.
But with BetterPic, that’s not a problem. You can fix most issues using the built-in AI tools or the Human Edits feature.
Pros
- Faster than most AI headshot generators (25 minutes vs. 1–2 hours).
- Highly realistic images with just 8 input photos.
- Smooth, user-friendly interface.
- AI editing options (background removal, eye color, attire changes).
Cons
- Please remember that these AI headshot generators don’t give instant results. It’s at least 25–30 minutes.
- Occasional flaws (odd eyes, imperfect teeth), like other AI headshot generators.
Pricing

- Basic: $35 (one time)
- Pro: $39 (one time)
- Expert: $79 (one time)
My Wife’s Take
My wife ranked BetterPic as the #2 headshot generator on her list.
Here’s her favorite result from this tool.

Here’s what my wife has to say about BetterPic…
BetterPic is a simple tool that turns your selfies into clean headshots without needing a photographer.
You just pick your styles, upload your selfies, confirm a few details, and wait about an hour for the results.
The photos came out sharp and flattering, though a bit more polished than she normally prefers.

The editing tools are easy to use, and you can change backgrounds or small details quickly. There’s also an option to have a real person edit one of your photos if you choose the higher plan.

Overall, she got a good set of headshots that she would use for social media or work.
Pros
- Fast results
- Easy to use
- Selfie quality check
- Phone upload with a QR code
- Custom edits and optional human editing
- Photos look professional
Cons
- Some shots look too smooth
- The top plan costs more
- No LinkedIn photo preview feature
⭐ Grade ⭐
Here’s how we see it.
- Realistic: 4.7/5
- Customizable: 4.9/5
- Waiting time: 4.0/5
- Total: 4.6/5
To Take Home
We both really love BetterPic AI headshots.
The results look realistic, and it’s faster than most of the other AI headshot tools I’ve tested.
You can also tweak and edit the images, or even get help from one of their human editors.
Just keep in mind that your personal features can affect the outcome.
Even with the best tools, things can still go a little off.
For example, one person mentioned that his hair was long, but the AI headshot made it short — which obviously isn’t ideal.
2. HeadshotPro
HeadshotPro is an epic AI headshot generator that creates public-speaking AI headshots.

My Experience
Let me show you how to use this AI headshot generator first.
First, you need to sign up for the service.

Upload images of yourself.

Add your details.

Wait.
It can take longer during high-demand periods, but usually, creating the AI headshots takes about 1–2 hours.
The team will notify you via email once the headshots are ready.

Here’s a before-and-after image of an AI headshot that I got from HeadshotPro:

It’s not one image you get, but a whole bunch more.
Here are some other really good-looking results that I got.

Realistic, sharp, and versatile. I like it.
Also, those public speech headshots are super cool. I don’t think any other software lets you do this right now.
However, the closer you look at the headshots, the more fake some appear. I’d say 80–90% of the results fall into this category.
You can edit the headshots, though.
For example, here I’ve told the AI to create a Cafe background for my AI headshots:

That’s pretty cool, and not many AI headshot generators let you do this!
Pricing

- Basic: $29
- Professional: $39
- Executive: $59
Pros
- Super realistic result
- High-quality results
- Faster than a photographer
- Good customization features
Cons
- Edits create new images; unlike you might imagine, they do not edit the existing ones
- It can be pricey for some people on a budget.
- Some images are “artificial” and not too realistic
My Wife’s Take
I noticed that we both put this tool in a similar spot in our top 10.
For my wife, it goes to the top 5 spot. And for me, it’s at the top 4 spot.
Here’s my wife’s favorite result:

So, here’s what my wife has to say about HeadshotPro…
HeadshotPro creates clean, professional headshots in about two hours.
She found it a bit tricky to upload 15 photos because she didn’t have many ready.
But once she submitted everything, the tool took care of the rest.
Her results looked polished and sharp, almost like a slightly beautified version of herself.

Some full-body shots had odd proportions, but most headshots looked accurate and well-lit.

She really liked the LinkedIn icon preview, which helped her see how each photo would look as a small profile image.

The expression edits weren’t very strong, and the transparent background tool didn’t work as well as she hoped.
And… The public speech image is not good at all. Doesn’t look like her at all!

Pros
- Many backgrounds and clothing combos
- Helpful features like “Choose for me” and LinkedIn preview
- Fast turnaround
- Sharp, professional-looking images
- Headshots look great as small icons
Cons
- Repetition in poses
- Edit tools are not very effective
- Headshots can look too polished or filtered
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 4.5/5
- Customizable: 3.5/5
- Waiting time: 3.9/5
- Total: 4.2/5
My Take
I like HeadshotPro.
It’s one of the best AI headshot generators, in my opinion.
The only downside is that the results are a bit artificial-looking, and I look tired in a lot of them.
Also, it lacks the human edits that BetterPic offers.
However, the cool thing about this AI headshot generator is that it lets you create those public speech images. Those look superb, and I don’t think there’s any other AI headshot generator that lets you create those (except for ChatGPT).
I’d give it a shot. I think these pictures are insanely good for social media profiles.
3. Secta AI

Secta AI is a great AI headshot generator that can turn your selfies into headshots in different styles.
The styles range from casual selfies to formal headshots.
Also, as a Finnish guy, I have to mention the Aurora Borealis-style headshots — they’re amazing.
But enough talking — let me show you my experience with it and how to use it.
My Experience
Let me first show you how to create your headshots using Secta AI.
First, visit their homepage.

It immediately prompts you to pick a plan.
This AI headshot generator makes it easy since there’s just one paid plan for $49. (However, there’s a hidden cost that is the edits that cost $5-$20/month if you want to use those. More about that later.

Once you’ve bought a package, set your preferences, such as the gender, ethnicity, and hair color.

Then pick your AI headshot styles.

You can choose the types of headshots you want to create from the list based on what you like in the previews. It lets you pick up to 20 styles for your headshots.
Then it’s time for the hardest part, that is, the AI headshot generator asks you to upload a bunch of images of yourself.

With Secta AI, you need to upload at least 20 photos of yourself, which is more than any other AI headshot generator asks for.
Finding that many photos can take some time.
One thing I liked is that it accepts HEIC images from my Mac.
If you have those, you don’t need to convert them. Just drop them in and you’re good to go.

Then, once you have added your images to the view, move to the next view. Here, it asks you to choose your favorite photo:

Once you hit “Submit,” it starts making your AI headshots.
This can take a while. Mine took about 3 hours from submission to getting the final headshots.
You don’t have to sit and wait, though.
Just keep an eye on your email, and when you see a message like this, your headshots are ready:

Isn’t that handy?
Now, let me show you my results.
Here’s the first set:

There are over 20 images in each section. I think that means I got over 140 AI headshots.
Here are more AI headshots from Secta.

Let me give you a closer look at some of my favorites:

I mean, aren’t those incredible?
Especially the Aurora Borealis one. It not only looks like me but also feels like it’s from my country.
Those are just awesome!
This tool also lets you make edits to your headshots.

The edits aren’t free, though.
You need to subscribe to a monthly plan, which is a bit annoying and new to me.
Most other headshot generators let you edit for free or with credits, but this one costs up to $20 a month.
For example, here I’m editing one of the Northern Lights headshots to give it a red outdoor outfit.

After about 5 minutes of waiting, I got these results back:

Those are just awesome! Let me zoom in a bit. Here are three really well-edited images with a red outfit on:

To make it easier for you to compare, this was the original AI-generated photo:

These are so good that I had to ask more.
This time I asked for a light blue polo shirt:

After a couple of minutes, here’s what I got back:

That’s so cool! Here’s a zoomed-in version of one of the images:

The only issue is that these edits make the images a bit less realistic.
The edges around me look like I’ve been copy-pasted onto the photo.
Even so, you can change the background, switch clothing, regenerate certain images, and more.
Pretty cool, right?
Pros
- Generates over 140 high-quality AI headshots
- Cool variety of styles, including the Aurora Borealis look
- Simple $49 pricing, no confusing tiers
- Supports HEIC images (handy for Mac users)
- This tool lets you pick preferences like gender, ethnicity, and hair color
- Email notification when headshots are ready
Cons
- Some images come out badly or uncannily
- Edits can’t fix the worst headshots
- Edits cost extra ($5–$20/month), not included
- Needs 20+ photos to start, which is a lot
- Takes around 3 hours to generate results
- No free trial or preview before paying
- Forces you to pick a plan right away on the homepage
Pricing

There’s just one $49 one-time fee for personal headshots. For companies and communities, there are bigger plans.
My Wife’s Take
Here’s my wife’s favorite result from Secta:

To be honest, she wasn’t too pleased with these headshots. She didn’t put it nearly as high as I did on the list.
Here’s what my wife has to say about Secta AI…
Secta AI turns your selfies into clean, realistic headshots in different styles.
The tool checks your photos and rejects blurry ones, which helps keep the final results accurate.
Her headshots arrived in about two hours, and many of them looked very close to real photos.

Some shots changed her hair color to brunette, which didn’t suit her as well, but the faces and expressions were very accurate.

A few styles were fun but not useful, and some images looked tired or had small blemishes added.

She liked that the photos didn’t age her, which happens with a lot of other tools.
The editing feature lets you change hair color, clothes, expressions, and backgrounds.
However, some dramatic edits made the results look blurry and the hair color changed to something completely wrong.

Also, there were some very strange images too…

Like yeah… That’s cool, for sure. But would she use an image like this on LinkedIn?
Probably not, right?
Nonetheless, this was still an impressive tool and versatile as well.
Pros
- Editing tools available
- Very accurate faces
- Many styles to choose from
- Fast processing
- Doesn’t age the face
Cons
- Remix edits can reduce image quality
- Hair color often changes
- Some headshots feel repetitive
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 4.6/5
- Customizable: 4.7/5
- Waiting time: 3.5/5
- Total: 4.2/5
To Take Home
I really love my Secta AI headshots.
This generator gave me mostly good results.
With most AI headshot tools, only about 5–10% of the shots are actually usable, and the rest are just okay.
With Secta, I got around 20–25% of the images as ones I could actually use.
The editing features are also full and thorough. The only downside is that the edits come with a monthly fee.
4. Magic Photos AI

Magic Photos AI is easily one of the best AI headshot generators I’ve tried for generating social media profile pictures or dating profile pictures.
It’s less of a professional headshot generator and more of a candid photo generator.
It’s not marketed that way, but that’s where it really shines.
The lighting is nice, the quality is clean, and most of the results look like natural selfies you’d post on Instagram.
Here’s what I got from Magic Photos AI:
My Results
First, let me quickly show you how easy it is to use this AI headshot generator.

Start by heading to their site. From there, sign up and start a new photoshoot.
Give your photoshoot a name (your name) and specify your gender.

Then, it’s time to let the AI know what you look like. To do this best, read the instructions carefully.

Then upload your photos by dropping them into the view. The tool will run a quick quality check on those. If you add too low-res photos, the AI won’t accept those because then it can’t see you well enough, and you could get distorted results.

Then pick a plan:

I chose the $69 plan, since it gives me 200 headshots, 10 styles, and the fastest turnaround.
Speaking of styles, it’s time to choose styles for your AI photoshoots. In Magic Photos, there are lots of styles to choose from!

Once you’ve selected the styles, double-check everything in the final view before generating.

Then just start the process.
This takes about 15 minutes on the most expensive plan. In the cheapest option, you’ll need to wait for 90 minutes.

Once the processing is done, click into your profile to see your AI-generated images. (You’ll also receive an email that notifies you about the headshots.)
Here are my AI-generated headshots:

Aren’t those awesome? They really look like me.
In fact, in some of the 10 styles I picked, it’s almost impossible to tell it’s AI.
(One thing that threw me off for a moment: when you preview the images, they have watermarks, even if you’re on a paid plan. But don’t worry. They disappear when you download the files. The watermarks are just there to stop people from generating headshots, saving them, and then trying to cancel and get a refund.)
That said, here are some of my favorites for a closer look:

All these look realistic and exactly like me.
Also, thanks to the number of styles and photos in total, I think there’s at least 1–2 usable images for each 10 styles I tried. That’s good, because there are lots of AI headshot generators where you get 0–5 good results in total. This tool gave at least 20 usable ones.
Notice that this tool also lets you edit your photos.
Just pick an image, and click “Edit”.

Then choose what you want to do.

For example, in the above image, I wanted to change my ridiculous-looking green tight shirt to something more subtle.

After about 2 minutes of waiting, here’s the result I got:

That’s a lot better! As you can see, it’s otherwise the same headshot, but now I have a better fit.

Pros
- Turnaround was just around 15 minutes. This makes it one of the fastest tools I’ve tested thus far.
- Most of the headshots looked impressively realistic. Some had minor quirks, but nothing major. I think that in every style, I got at least 1–2 usable images, which in my plan means I have 20 epic headshots!
- Even the highest-tier plan is under $69. Still way cheaper (and easier) than hiring someone.
Cons
- Some photos are just bad and uncanny. There’s no way around it.
- The editing options are limited to what other tools (such as BetterPic) offer. However, I can’t hate it too much because this one is one of the only tools that allow for edits in the first place.
Pricing

- Starter: $49
- Basic: $59
- Premium: $69
My Wife’s Take
Here’s my wife’s best result according to her:

Not going to lie, this would have fooled me completely. It looks so realistic and natural.
Here’s how my wife finds it.
MagicPhotos creates casual, realistic headshots in just a few minutes.
You upload your selfies, pick a plan, choose your backgrounds, and the tool does the rest.
She chose The Fire plan, and her photos were ready in about 15 minutes.
The results looked surprisingly natural, even with different poses, lighting, and settings.

Some shots looked so real that her family probably wouldn’t be able to tell they were AI-generated.

Some backgrounds felt unrealistic, like places she hasn’t actually visited. Not every headshot was perfect, but most looked great.
The editing feature is easy to use.
It lets you change outfits, fix small flaws, or swap backgrounds without losing quality.

Pros
- Accurate and natural headshots
- Works with different poses and lighting
- Many backgrounds to choose from
- Easy customization
- Very fast results
Cons
- More expensive than some alternatives
- Editing options feel limited
- No human editing option
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 4.0/5
- Customizable: 2/5
- Waiting time: 4.5/5
- Total: 4.2/5
To Take Home
Magic Photos AI is a good option for making profile pictures, dating pics, and more.
Some images look a bit too smooth or polished, which can give away that they’re AI.
But a few turned out so good, I had to do a double-take.
The biggest downside is that the editing options are limited.
If a photo doesn’t work, you can change the outfit, regenerate it, or improve the resolution.
But there’s no human editor or try-on-clothes feature.
Still, if you want Instagram selfies or general profile pictures, Magic Photos AI is worth a shot. Some of the results are impressively accurate.
5. InstaHeadshots

InstaHeadshots is the best AI tool for social media profile pictures.
It’s not exactly marketed that way, but I found it shines in this category.
The results look great, the lighting is great, and most of the images are selfies I’d actually post on Instagram or other social media.
Here’s what I got from InstaHeadshots:
My Results
Let me first show you how ot use InstaHeadshots. Then, I’ll also show you my results with the tool.
First, head over to this page.

Then sign up for the service. You can use Google to save you some clicks and having to recall yet another password.

Then, create a new profile.

Pick the best plan.

Read the instructions.

Upload your images, answer a couple of questions, and wait.
For me, it took about an hour to see the results.
Once the AI is ready, click on your profile to view your images.

Click on a page that looks like this again:

Here are your results!

You can’t edit your photos with InstaHeadshots. But most of the images are so good that there’s really no need to.
My results are mostly selfies, and I think that’s because I used a lot of selfies in the input images. But whatever the reason, the selfies are really great, so I could use them on my socials.
Here are some images:

Here are some more AI headshots that I got from this service:

Those look pretty accurate. It’s still hard to imagine that these are not real images but fake AI headshots, right?
One thing I was worried about for a second was that once you open up those images, you see watermarks, even on a paid plan.

But those go away once you download your images.

The watermarks are there so that you don’t create your headshots, download them, and then cancel the plan for a refund.
They don’t want you to steal the photos from them, is basically what I’m trying to say here.
Pros
- I waited about an hour. That isn’t bad at all. It can take days or even weeks with a real photographer.
- The headshots look pretty realistic. There are some small artifacts, sure, but nothing that ruins the vibe.
- Even the top-tier plan is under $100, and that’s still way cheaper (and easier) than hiring an actual photographer.
- There’s a free option available. It takes longer, but if you’re not in a rush, it might be the way to go.
Cons
- Most of the images came out a bit too blurry, and the expression is just kind of… blank. Looks okay at first glance, but the more you look, the more artificial it feels.
- While it costs less than hiring someone, it can still be expensive. Many AI headshot generators also offer free trials.
- If you want to make small edits to your headshots, you’ll need to use a different AI headshot generator. InstaHeadshots doesn’t let you do in-app AI edits like some of the other options
Pricing

- Starter: $49
- Basic: $59
- Premium: $69
My Wife’s Take
My wife’s favorite result from this tool is this:

Once again, we had a similar placement for this tool on our lists.
I placed it at #7, and my wife did #6.
Here’s what my wife has to say about InstaHeadshots…
InstaHeadshots creates headshots from your selfies in as little as 15 minutes.
You make an account, answer a few questions, upload your best selfies, and pick the looks you want.
She used the Premium plan and received 200 headshots with 10 different looks.
Most of them looked accurate and natural at first glance, and a few were good enough to use right away.

Some shots looked very polished or fake, especially the ones with teeth showing.

She only uploaded one smiling selfie.
She tried the outfit-change edit, but the result looked unnatural compared to the original.

There’s also an option to upscale images for an extra fee.
My wife also found it weird that there’s a watermark even though you have paid for the headshots…

But that goes away as you download the images.
Pros
- Very fast turnaround
- Simple to use
- Some accurate and usable headshots
Cons
- Many photos look overly artificial
- The editing feature is weak
- Overall pricing feels high
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 4.0/5
- Customizable: 0/5
- Waiting time: 4.0/5
- Total: 4.0/5
To take home
InstaHeadshots is great for social media profile pictures and AI headshots.
Some of the selfies look a bit too artificial and smooth to be real.
So that gives it away. But some of the photos just look awesome and realistic.
There’s a free version, but it has a long queue.
The issue with this one is also that there are no editing options for you. This is annoying since some images are good, but they’re just off. I’d like to regenerate those images, but that’s not possible.
Anyways, if you want Instagram pictures made with AI (or selfies in general), make sure to try InstaHeadshots. Some of the results are shockingly good and accurate. The only reason it’s lower on the list today is that the results are so inconsistent. Out of the 100 images I got, I’d only say 5–10 are usable.
6. DreamWave AI

DreamWave AI is one of the oldest AI headshot generators out there. It’s among the first ones I ever tested.
This tool takes your selfies and turns those into editable AI headshots in just an hour.
Unlike most AI headshot tools on this list, this one has a free plan (with a long queue, though).
Let me show you how it went for us.
My results
Here are the real images that I sent to DreamWave:

Here are my AI-generated results:

In total, I got over 300 images from DreamWave, so the ones you see above are just a select few of those. You get the idea from those!
I like these a lot. They look very close to what I look like. But also, I have a blank stare, and most of the images look dull.
Let’s do a little side-by-side comparison with some of them:

We’re pretty close!
Most of the images look very close to what I look like. Also, there’s a lot of variation in the image styles, such as lighting, poses, and clothing.
But as you can see from the images, all the AI-generated ones have an AI vibe. The images are blurry, and the stare is a bit blank.
But luckily, there are better products for the same price. Let me show you my favorite Dreamwave AI alternatives.
My Experiences
To get DreamWave AI headshots, head over to this page and click “Get headshots.”

Then you need to choose a package. It’s a bit of a pricey product, but I think the best option is to choose the standard package with 250 headshots.

Then sign up. I used Google to save me from the hassle.
Then, answer a couple of basic questions to let the AI know you better and also choose your style.

Then, it’s time to upload the images. But before you do that, please read the instructions with care.

Keep your images clear and show your face in a well-lit environment with no edits. Also, use images from different contexts. Don’t just take a series of selfies.
When you drag and drop your images into the view, don’t be disappointed if they don’t get accepted. Some of my selfies were too low in quality so the AI asked me to take another photo.

Once you’ve selected all your images, just confirm your order and wait.

This takes about 20–40 minutes. Once the images are ready, you get an email like this:

Then click the email to visit your headshots and enjoy!
To change things around, you can use the AI edit button to change your background, teeth, and more.

These can help you customize some of the common shortcomings of AI headshots.
Also, if you really love what you see, you can also click the “Generate more like this” button to make a lot of similar images.

Pricing

- Free: $0 (but with a long multi-week queue.)
- Starter: $35 for 120 headshots
- Basic: $59 for 250 headshots
- Premium: $99 for 500 headshots
Pros
- Fast. I had to wait for just 2 hours. That’s not a lot considering it can take days or even weeks to do it with a photographer.
- Realistic. Most of the AI headshots look realistic, despite having some small artifacts.
- AI edits. If you want to make small changes to your headshots, use the AI edits. This allows you to change your background, fix teeth, and whatnot.
- It’s cheaper than a photographer. Even though the most expensive plan is $99, it’s a lot cheaper than hiring a photographer to take and post-process 500 images.
- Free. There’s a free option that takes time to wait, but if you’re not in a hurry, this might be your option.
Cons
- Too artificial. Most of the images are just too blurry, and the stare is way too blank and dull. It’s great… But the more you stare at it, the more artificial the vibe.
- Costly. Paying $35-$99 for headshots that are not guaranteed to be great is a costly investment.
- Better alternatives exist. I’m not going to lie — there are a lot better tools than DreamWave AI — at the same (or even cheaper) price.
My Wife’s Take
Here’s what my wife has to say about DreamWave…

The results arrived in about an hour, and most of the photos looked accurate, especially the face.

Some shots showed her with different hair colors or shorter styles, which was fun to see but not always usable for professional purposes.
The variety of poses and backgrounds was impressive, and many angles looked very true to life.

A few images, like with any AI tool, looked off or low-quality, but that’s normal.
Also, some were super inaccurate with her hairstyle…

She used the editing feature to change outfits and fix her hair.

The edits looked good, but the quality sometimes dropped after the changes.
Pros
- Accurate face and natural angles
- Lots of poses and backgrounds
- Useful AI edit feature
- More headshots per package than many tools
Cons
- More expensive than several alternatives
- Some images look grainy
- The editing feature isn’t very strong
To take home
Dreamwave AI is a decent AI headshot maker.
I wouldn’t put it in my top 10, but my wife had it top 4, so I had to place it a bit higher. 😉
This tool gives you more AI images than any other tool.
Also, there’s a free plan with a long queue, unlike most of the other AI headshot platforms.
Definitely worth checking out!
7. GoStudio AI

Professional headshots can be pricey, but I came across a more affordable option that still delivers surprisingly strong results.
This AI headshot generator is called GoStudio AI.
It doesn’t let you edit your AI headshots, but it creates great outputs that look mostly realistic and crisp.
Let me show you my results.
My Experience
Here’s how the process went for me. Spoiler: it’s super straightforward.
To use it, sign up for the GoStudio AI website.

Click on “Get Your Headshots.”
Then pick your style and gender:

Then read the instructions.

As you can see, GoStudio gives you detailed instructions to ensure your images meet their quality standards. It’s worth following closely to achieve the best outcome.
Then it’s time to upload your selfies for the AI to know what you look like.
Here’s what I sent in:

At this point, I noticed that some of my images would fail to process. Also, this would completely freeze the UI, not letting me proceed to the next step. It was super annoying. I tried to get it working many, many times before I was able to pull it off.
Nonetheless, once you’ve uploaded your real headshots, pick a plan.

I recommend always doing the plan with most headshots since it gives you the best chance to get the best results. Most headshots end up being not that great, after all.
One thing I noticed while using GoStudio was the simplicity. Both in good and bad.
- It’s good because you don’t need to worry about having 20+ images of yourself or answering all those personal details most tools ask for.
- However, it is also significantly limited compared to the best AI headshot generators on the market.
But now, let’s move on to the results.
Here are the AI headshots I got from GoStudio:

When the results came in, I was pretty happy with them.
Here are more results:

The only problem is that these are way too generic and kind of one-dimensional compared to the best tools on the market.
They all look pretty much the same. The aspect ratio is the same. The suit is almost the same. There’s no variability. In one of the images I was sitting, and in some I was in a slightly different pose.

One cool thing I noticed was that this tool didn’t create those artificial-looking, fake AI headshots. These all look mostly like real photographs. So that’s something this tool seems to nail pretty well.
To be honest, there’s not too much to complain about. But this just feels basic and limited compared to the other tools I’ve tested.
Oh, and also, there are no edits or any customization options.
So you have to be fine with what you get, sadly. That’s also one thing that makes this tool not so great compared to the best tools on the list.
Pros
- Very simple to use. Just a few steps from signup to delivery.
- Realistic output. In my case, they looked a lot like me.
Cons
- No editing options. What you get is what you get. If one looks off, you can’t make tweaks.
- Slower turnaround. It can take up to a couple of hours before you get your results.
- UI/UX issue. It took a while for me to be able to upload my images to the tool.
Pricing

- Standard ($24 one-time): 40+ headshots, 1-hour processing, 1 pack, 20 poses, great for resumes.
- Premium ($19/month): 40 headshots, 30-min processing, 1 pack/month, 20+ poses, ideal for creators.
- Pro ($49): Up to 150 images, 2-day delivery, custom brand look, perfect for personal branding.
My Wife’s Take

Here’s what my wife has to say about GoStudio AI…
The tool processes everything quickly and delivers a set of portraits you can use for LinkedIn or other work profiles.

Her results looked accurate overall, even though the AI changed her hair color in some shots.
The poses and expressions looked natural, and the images didn’t have that overly polished look some tools create.

The full-body results were also surprisingly good, even without uploading full-body photos.
Like with any AI tool, a few images looked distorted or strange, but most were sharp and realistic.

The editing feature works well.
She could change her hair color and swap outfits with easy prompts. The results looked good and did not affect the rest of the image.

Pros
- Edit feature works well
- Accurate faces and natural poses
- Good variety in hairstyles and looks
- Fast results
- Affordable plans, including one-time options
Cons
- Some images look grainy
- The interface can be confusing at first
To Take Home
I ended up with a ton of usable shots. They turned out a lot better than I expected, honestly.
And my wife even put this tool in her top 3!
Also, the pricing of the smaller plans was affordable. One of the cheapest AI headshot generators I tested.
They’re perfect for things like your resume, LinkedIn, or other online profiles.
I wouldn’t rely on these for important moments, such as engagement photos.
However, if you want to look good online without hiring a photographer or planning a full shoot, this works well.
There’s no need for awkward posing or outfit planning.
It’s not perfect, and a few photos might miss the mark, but you get so many that at least a few are bound to work.
8. PhotoPacks AI

As you can see, headshots typically cost quite a bit. However, I’m happy to tell you I’ve found a cheaper alternative that produces just as good results.
I’m talking about PhotoPacks AI.
This AI headshot generator creates epic headshots for just $19.

My Experience
I’ll show you how easy it is to use PhotoPacks AI first.
First, you need to sign up for PhotoPacks AI.

Click on “Get Your Headshots”.

Then buy the AI photo pack:

Answer questions related to your characteristics. This way, the AI learns who you are and can better understand what kinds of headshots it should create.

Then you get to choose the main style for your AI headshots. I went with a business style.

Then, send your images to the AI.
Please check the instructions to get the best possible AI headshots back.

Here are my images:

Then, it’s time to wait.

This tool is a bit slower.
For me, it took about 4 hours to get my headshots, but they told me it can take up to 24 hours. You will receive an email once the headshots are ready.

Here are some AI headshots that I got from PhotoPacks AI:

They look exactly like me! They’re also versatile, well-lit, and mostly flawless.
Here are more AI headshots that I got:

Here’s my favorite business AI headshot that I got from PhotoPacks:

Speaking of least favorites, don’t be disappointed if you get a lot of unusable headshots.
For example, here’s one of my least favorite headshots:

I think most headshots turned out OK or even great. There are not as many misses as I would have expected from a cheaper tool. I think the results are up to par with other AI headshot generators.
Pros
- Easy to use. Just sign up, answer a couple of questions, upload some images, and wait.
- Realistic. The results look like you and are very realistic, in my experience.
Cons
- No customizations. All you get is your images. You can’t edit those. If an image is a miss, it’s going to stay like that.
- Waiting times. This tool takes up to 24 hours to render the AI headshots, which is a lot slower than most other tools.
Pricing

PhotoPacks headshots only cost $19.
My Wife’s Take
My wife said that her best result from PhotoPacks was this:

That looks a lot like her, for sure!
Here’s what my wife has to say about PhotoPacks AI…
PhotoPacks AI creates natural-looking headshots from your selfies without costing much.
Her headshots took about three hours to arrive, and most of them looked clean and realistic.

The lighting was flattering, and her hair turned out especially nice in many of the shots.

She preferred the images that looked the most true to life, and she found several she’d use for social media.

Some pictures were distorted or odd, but that happens with every AI tool.
For example, this one is just bad:

Doesn’t look like her at all.
But hey, that’s what happens with all these AI headshot generators from time to time…
Nonetheless, she found this tool really impressive, although not the best one!
Pros
- Natural-looking results
- Flattering lighting
- Several accurate, usable headshots
- Simple to use
- Affordable
Cons
- No customization options
- Processing can take several hours
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 4.2/5
- Customizable: 0/5
- Waiting time: 4.0/5
- Total: 3.7/5
My Take
I’m a fan of my AI headshots. I found a bunch that look like me out of the 100+ headshots that I got.
I think these work well for resumes and professional network photos.
I wouldn’t use AI for big life moments like weddings, but for looking sharp online without the hassle of shoots, outfits, or awkward posing? Way easier.
Downside: It’s hit or miss, and you can’t tweak the results on PhotoPacks. But you get so many, you’re bound to end up with a few great ones.
9. AI SuitUp

AI SuitUp is one of the best AI headshot tools that comes with a sub-$ $30 pricing plan.
The reason it’s not higher on the list is that it doesn’t let you customize your AI photos. However, usually, they’re still so good that you don’t need to.
Let me show you what kinds of images I got with it.
My Experience
To use AI SuitUp, first, head over to this page.

I suggest the Professional plan because there, you’ll get 100 headshots. However, you can see what things look like with the Basic plan, and the price doesn’t impact the quality.

Read the instructions next.

Add your details and characteristics.

Upload your selfies. Choose from your mobile device’s camera roll, for example, these don’t need to be professional.

The upload sometimes tends to fail if the images are too small. If that happens, just choose a different image.
This AI headshot generator will prompt you to upload your best photo, which the AI will use as the base image.

Once the selfie validation is complete, hit “send.”

Wait for an hour or two.
Once the AI has made your images, you will get an email notifying you about the AI-generated photos.

No need to wait for the images to generate. I think it took about 60–120 minutes for me, so there’s no point sticking around to wait. Just close the window and click the email link to view your headshots.
Here are my results:

Those look like me, for sure.
Feel free to use the like/dislike function to remove bad images from the gallery.

Be sure to save the email/catalog link, as you can’t sign in to AI SuitUp. This is the only way to access your images later.
Pros:
- Cheaper than other AI headshot generators.
- Easy to use, just upload selfies and wait about an hour.
- Realistic results that look exactly like you.
- Variety and versatility in the results.
- Little to no artifacts in most images.
Cons:
- Some images may fail or not resemble you.
- A few images have a 3D-rendered look.
- No customization options. You’ll have to be happy with what you get.
Pricing
That’s epic! But what about the pricing of this service?

- Basic: $27 (Originally $59)
- Professional: $37 (Originally $69)
- Ultimate: $57 (Originally $99)
My Wife’s Take
This is my wife’s favorite result from the tool:

Here’s what my wife has to say about AI SuitUp…
Her headshots looked accurate overall, and several of them were good enough for LinkedIn or a resume.

The eye area looked especially natural, and the photos didn’t age her too much, which is common with these kinds of tools.

Some shots looked off or much older than her real age, but that’s typical with AI headshot generators.

There’s no customization feature, so you can’t edit or tweak the results afterward.
Pros
- Affordable
- Simple to use
- Good variety of styles and backgrounds
- Many accurate and usable headshots
- Clear selfie instructions and validation
Cons
- No editing or customization
- Some headshots aged her
- A few images looked nothing like her
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 3.9/5
- Customizable: 0/5
- Waiting time: 3/5
- Total: 3.7/5
To Take Home
AI SuitUp is also really good.
The results are among the best I’ve seen. A great top 10 AI headshot generator.
The waiting time and the inability to customize the headshots lower its rank on this list.
10. The Multiverse AI

The Multiverse AI is one of the OGs in the game. This was one of the first AI headshot generators I tried.
The tool lets you create stunning AI headshots for just $29. Also, it lets you customize the images by giving the AI a prompt on what you want to see in your images.
It’s the only tool thus far that allows you to do this.
Let’s see the results!
My Experience
To start generating headshots, head over to this page and click “Get your photos”.

You’ll see a view that prompts you to add images of yourself.
Don’t take a series of selfies!

Upload the images.
I will use the same images in every AI headshot generator on this list to compare the results.

As you can see, those are relatively close-up headshots or selfies.
The Multiverse AI has an editor you can use to crop the images. Go through every image and crop it as per the rules.

One issue I had, though, was that the AI headshot generator complained about almost every image I dropped into it. That’s because the images were too small.

If you get a similar error, use an image upscaler to make your images bigger.

Drop an image into the Multiverse AI editor again.
Do this with every image until you have 12 images.
If you don’t have this many images, take some in different scenes with your mobile device. Don’t upload a series of selfies!

Enter your email to get notified when the images are ready (and specify your gender.)

Then it’s time to hit “Upload” and wait.

In my case, it took the AI about 60 minutes to create the images. You can close the window since everything happens online, and you can even shut down your computer after this step.
Once the AI finishes creating the images, you’ll receive an email like this:

Here are my results:

That’s cool!
These look 100% real to me. The image on the far right might not be as accurate, but the two on the left? I’m speechless!
Here are some of the real photos of me that I uploaded:

The resolution and lighting aren’t perfect, but the AI still managed to capture my facial features flawlessly and place me in those professional images.
Here are more AI-generated headshots of me:

There are tons of these images. I think there are 100 or so AI-generated professional headshots in total.

You have to give this a try, especially with the AI custom feature that lets you tell the AI what you want in your images.
After creating your images, you can access the custom page at themultiverse.ai/custom/.
Pros:
- Realistic headshots that look professionally taken.
- A variety of images in different settings.
- Perfect for a CV or LinkedIn profile.
- High resolution and there’s really no “robotic” or “AI” look.
Cons:
- 60+ minutes of waiting time.
- Some artificial vibe in the images, especially with newer models.
- Most of my images weren’t ideal for the AI to analyze.
- No free trial.
Pricing

The Multiverse AI costs $29.00.
My Wife’s Take
My wife chose this picture as her favorite from The Multiverse AI:

Not bad, huh?
Her photos showed a lot of variation, though some looked like the AI was guessing her appearance.
For example, the one on the left is just not there.

Many shots changed her hair to a darker color, but a few looked accurate and professional.

She found one favorite that looked so natural she could easily use it for LinkedIn.

The editing tools were the highlight. She changed her hair color, adjusted backgrounds, and even softened her expression.

Some edits looked even better than the originals, especially the hair change.

She also generated new headshots entirely from text prompts, which worked well once she used clear wording.
Pros
- 100 headshots in under two hours
- Generate 20 new shots from text prompts
- Strong editing options
- Fast and easy to use
- Affordable
Cons
- Limited variety in camera angles
- Some results didn’t look like hers
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 3.5/5
- Customizable: 4.2/5
- Waiting time: 4.0/5
- Total: 3.5/5
To Take Home
This one allows you to tell the AI what kinds of images you want to create of yourself.
As far as I’m aware, this is the only AI headshot generator that lets you do customizations like that. That’s why it’s high on the list. However, the results aren’t that good compared to the best tools on the list.
But as mentioned before, the results may vary. They put a lot of time and effort into developing the AI headshot generator, so I wouldn’t be surprised to find better results next time I try these in a couple of months.
11. Aragon AI

Aragon AI is an AI portrait generator that’s best suitable for LinkedIn and other professional network profile photos.
This AI headshot generator also lets you customize your images.
Let’s see what it created with my images.
My Experience
First, head over to the homepage and sign up.
Click on “Create Headshots.” This will start the headshot generation process.

Answer the questions, such as your age:

Choose the main style. There are 3 options. I went with the business casual style.

Upload some images to the tool.
First, read the instructions, though.

Upload your real selfies. I used these real images as my inputs:

Check your details and double-check everything:

Submit the photos and wait.

Aragon AI will send you an email in about 30 minutes to notify you that your headshots are ready.

Here are my headshots:

Those look good to me. But nothing too crazy compared to what those other tools did.
Here are more images that the AI made for me:

If you’re not happy with some of the images, you can click the Edit button to make AI adjustments.
I’d say 80% of my headshots with Aragon are so realistic that even my friends couldn’t tell they weren’t me.
Pros:
- Realistic, sharp, high-quality results.
- Faster than most AI headshot generators.
- The refreshed AI produces even more realistic images.
- Plenty of editing features that other platforms don’t offer.
Cons:
- Some poses look odd. I prefer the ones where I’m just standing or sitting, less so the ones where my hands are in action.
- A few photos look unrealistic or morphed, but that’s common across all AI headshot generators.
Pricing

- Starter: $35 for 20 headshots
- Basic: $45 for 60 headshots
- Premium: $75 for 100 headshots
My Wife’s Take
My wife’s favorite image from this tool is here:

Her results came quickly.

Some images looked too polished or clearly made by AI. However, a few were very accurate and looked just like her.

The side-profile shot was surprisingly good, even though the skin looked a bit too smooth.

She really liked the preview tool that shows how each photo would look as a LinkedIn profile picture or email icon.

Aragon AI has editing options, but in her case, the edits made things worse.
One edit even made her look ten years older and changed her pose by accident.

Pros
- Very fast generation time
- Many backgrounds and clothing styles
- Built-in editing options
Cons
- Many headshots were not usable
- Edits lowered image quality
- Photos looked too polished for her taste
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 3.0/5
- Customizable: 4.2/5
- Waiting time: 4.0/5
- Total: 3.3/5
To Take Home
Aragon is great. It’s one of the best when it comes to customization.
However, the AI headshots were too “overfitted.” I was making weird hand gestures, and also, I didn’t look as much like me as the other tools on this list.
However, your mileage may vary. Worth considering, for sure.
12. Portrait Pal
Best vintage-style headshots

Portrait Pal turns your selfies into professional AI headshots.
This AI headshot generator is super easy to use. Just upload your pictures, wait a bit, and get 100 beautiful images.
It creates vintage-style headshots with lots of variation.
Let’s take a look!
My Experience with Portrait Pal
Here’s what I look like in real life:

Here are my AI-generated headshots:

Those are realistic and close to what I look like.
To create AI headshots, head over to this page.
Click on “Create Your Headshots Now.”
Sign up first:

Then start creating your images: Specify your characteristics, such as gender, age, and so on.

Then, upload some images of yourself.
This way, the AI learns what you look like to create a portrait for you. But before you upload your images, read the instructions.

Use only clear images. Please make sure to include no others in the frame, and avoid silly faces. Remember, the AI needs to learn what you look like based on these images.
This helps the AI accurately understand your look in different contexts.
Simply drop your images here like this:

Wait for your images to be generated.
You’ll receive an email once the images are ready.
Here are the images I got:

That’s pretty cool if you asked me.
Those have few artifacts and little blemishes, unlike most of the other tools I’ve tested.
This is by far the best AI headshot generator out there.
Pros:
- Fast (30–45 minutes vs. days or weeks with a real photographer).
- Highly realistic results.
- Wide variety of images with different scenes, lighting, and attire.
Cons:
- UX issues (allows duplicate uploads, lenient rejection policy).
- No editing options are available on this AI headshot generator, only view and download.
Pricing

- Starter: $35 (one-time)
- Basic: $45 (one-time)
- Premium: $75 (one-time)
My Wife’s Take
My wife found this image to be the best from Portrait Pal:

Here’s what my wife has to say about Portrait Pal…
Portrait Pal creates clean, professional business headshots at a fair price.

Her photos arrived in about two to three hours, and there were a lot of poses and angles.

Some shots looked a bit too polished, but many of them were accurate and natural, with good lighting and correct hair color.

She also appreciated that the tool didn’t age her, which happens with many other AI headshot generators.

There were a few distorted images, but those are easy to ignore.

Pros
- Accurate and professional-looking headshots
- Good variety of poses and angles
- High-quality images that don’t look overly AI-generated
Cons
- No customization options
- Higher price per headshot compared to some competitors
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 3.4/5
- Customizable: 0/5
- Waiting time: 3.2/5
- Total: 3.2/5
To Take Home
Portrait Pal lets you create super-realistic images. I love my results; there are lots of different styles and poses.
Recommend it! Especially if you like vintage style.
13. Profilebakery

The next AI headshot generator on my list is called ProfileBakery.
Just as a warning, this one is one of the last paid AI headshot generators on the list, and you can clearly see this from the image quality, which is significantly worse than most of the tools on the list.
But the good part is that this AI headshot generator comes with a happiness guarantee.
Anyway, let’s see how it works.
My Experience
First, head over to their homepage and click on “Start now.”

The input image instructions are good and clear, though:

Here are some of the images that I used. These are real images of me:

Drag and drop them into the view.

This AI headshot generator also asks you to add one “baseline image.” This is the basic facial expression you’ll have in your output photos.
Make sure to choose one where you smile if you want to have images with a lot of smiles as the output.

Once you’ve chosen your images, you need to wait. For me, it took about an hour. But for some, it might take 3–4 hours.

You don’t have to wait, though. You can just close your window, and the email system will notify you once the images are ready.

Once the email arrives, you will find your AI images in a shared Google Drive folder.

For some reason, it feels strange that the images are in a shared drive folder… Those other AI tools have ow private built-in libraries. But whatever. Let’s look at the image quality.
Here are my favorite images:

The results are decent. The more I look at them, the more I get a 3D character vibe.
Feel free to check back with the original images and decide for yourself! 🙂
Pros:
- Realistic, professional-looking output images.
- Lots of variations in clothes, poses, and backgrounds.
- Built-in image improver features for fixing minor AI issues.
Cons:
- Fewer images compared to other tools.
- The UI feels a bit like a weekend project, but the results are surprisingly good!
- Takes longer than other headshot tools.
Pricing

- AI Mini: $24
- AI Regular: $29
- AI Pro: $49
My Wife’s Take
My wife likes this picture the most:

Here’s what my wife has to say about Profile Bakery…
Profile Bakery creates headshots quickly and lets you make some small edits afterward.
Her photos came with a good mix of poses and lighting, and a handful of them looked accurate and professional.

Some headshots were distorted or unflattering, but that happens with most AI tools.
Her favorite shot looked great for LinkedIn, even though the hair texture looked a bit off.

She tried the editing tools, including outfit changes, face improvements, prompt edits, and background swaps.
Most edits lowered the image quality, and some results were not what she expected.

She also found it a bit difficult to sign back in and access her gallery later.
Also, some results looked a bit uncanny and unrealistic.

Pros
- Fast turnaround
- Many editing options
- Affordable Mini and Regular plans
Cons
- Editing can reduce image quality
- Edits weren’t very strong
- Signing back in and accessing photos felt clunky
⭐ Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 2.0/5
- Customizable: 0/5
- Waiting time: 4.0/5
- Total: 2.2/5
Free AI Headshot Generators
But thus far, every tool that I’ve shown is a paid one.
That’s why I wanted to also create a list of the best free AI headshot generators in the end.
I didn’t include my wife in these because I think everyone knows how bad these free tools are.
But just in case you want to give those a try, here are the top picks.
1. HeadshotMaster.io
Best free AI headshot generator

HeadshotMaster.io is a free AI headshot generator that turns selfies into professional photos.
It offers a variety of styles for resumes, LinkedIn, and more, with no sign-up required and a focus on privacy.
This tool is similar to the paid headshot generators on this list since it creates new images that look like you. The main difference (aside from being free) is that it only needs one image of you and returns just 4 AI-generated faces.
My Experience
First, you need to answer simple questions, such as gender, age, hair color, eye color, ethnicity, etc.

Upload an image. You can do up to 4 images.

Wait for a couple of minutes.

After that, you will see a bunch of AI-generated face headshots of yourself.
Here are my results:

You can open up more results on the left-hand side.
For example, here are some more headshots of me:

That’s cool, considering it’s free. But let’s be real: It’s not exactly like me. It looks like a 3D-rendered character the closer you look at it.
Pros:
- Fast: Results in just a couple of minutes.
- One image: You only need to submit a single image, which is much easier than AI headshot generators that require 10–20 photos.
- Semi-realistic: The AI produced images that resemble me.
Cons:
- 3D vibe: The images look more like 3D renders than real photos.
- Out of place: Some images look completely off, robotic, and not like me.

⭐ My Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 1.7/5
- Customizable: 1.0/5
- Waiting time: 5/5
- Total: 2.0/5
2. Vheer

Here’s another free AI headshot generator worth checking out called Vheer.com.
This is an AI platform, and the AI headshot generator is just one AI headshot generators in the many.
But I was surprised to find that this is one of the best free AI headshot generators. Especially since I hadn’t heard of it before.
My Experience
Creating your AI headshot is super simple.
Just go to their website.
Then upload your image to this view:

Here’s the image I used.

Then tweak the settings on the right.
You can pick one of the styles on the list to get headshots that meet your eye.

Notice how you can use custom prompts to further customize your AI headshots.

Also, another super useful feature is that this tool lets you choose the aspect ratio in your headshots.

Once again, this is not common in AI headshot generators. Usually, the images are squares or 9:16, but you can’t tweak them.
I gave it a shot with a couple of attempts and styles.
Here are my results:

This very first result already surprised me. I thought it would be bad. To be brutally honest, this image is not the best and not even close to the paid headshot generators. But it’s good, especially if you look at it from a distance.
I’ll show you what the problem with this tool is in just a second, but let’s see a couple of free AI headshots before that.
Here’s another AI headshot that I created for free with Vheer.

And here’s yet another:

But now, let’s jump into the issues with this tool: Even though it’s free and easy to use, the quality just isn’t there.
Let me zoom in a bit closer.

Do you already see the problem?
If not, let’s zoom in a bit more:

Here you can see that while it looks exactly like me, the image is just not realistic at all. It looks like a 3D-rendered character to me. Or a wax model from one of those wax cabinets.
This is a common issue I always stumble across with these free AI headshot generators.
They’re fast, hence, they’re cheap or free to run. But the results look like this. Yes, if you look at those at a distance, there’s not much to complain. But on a closer look, you don’t need to look for more than 2 seconds to see that it’s all fake.
Pros
- Totally Free: No cost at all.
- Very Fast: Just about half a minute for results.
- Great Results: This free AI headshot generator is the top choice or one of the top choices that I’ve tested right now. The results are realistic if you look at a distance.
Cons
- Not Very Realistic: The likeness is way off when you pay closer attention to the images. As I said, if you have a small icon or look from a meter or more, it looks realistic. But the closer you look, the more 3D character vibes you’ll get.
- Limited Input: Since it only uses one image, the output lacks accuracy.
- Free Is Bad: As I’ve said many times on the channel and my blogs, free AI headshot generators just aren’t there. Not even close.

3. HeadshotPro (Free)
Best background-changer AI headshot maker
Next up is HeadshotPro, a background-swapping tool that uses AI to detect edges and remove you from the image.
The concept is simple: Upload your photo, and this “AI headshot generator” quickly turns it into multiple professional headshots with different backgrounds.
Like PFPMaker, I’ve mentioned in earlier articles, it doesn’t create a new face; it just enhances your existing photo with new backgrounds.
My Results
Here’s my favorite before-and-after shot it created:
The lighting looks accurate and realistic.
But honestly, it’s all luck. The AI didn’t adjust my face lighting; it just matched with a great background from the catalog.
More Results
You can get more similar results by choosing the background from this view:
Noteworthy
This isn’t exactly a headshot generator since it doesn’t create your face. Instead, it uses AI to remove the background and replace it with a new one.
With a variety of pre-made backgrounds available, the process is quick, and you can easily try different options to find one that complements your image.
One downside is that the backgrounds are pre-built, meaning the AI doesn’t generate new ones each time you hit “generate.” Essentially, it’s more of a background remover and changer than anything else.
Pricing
Free!
I’ve not graded these background generators since it’s technically not an AI headshot generator.
4. PFPMaker
Best HeadshotPro alternative

PFPMaker is an AI tool that helps you make professional profile pictures by changing your image backgrounds.
It’s free and faster than most tools since it doesn’t create new images; it just removes the background and swaps in a pre-made one.
Technically, it’s not a headshot generator.
But with its AI background removal, enhancement, and template customization, PFPMaker makes it easy to improve existing images, which is perfect for something like a LinkedIn profile picture.
My Results
Here’s the before-and-after shot I got from PFPMaker:

My Experience
Using this AI is easy and fast.
First, upload an image of yourself:

Wait for 15 seconds. This is fast!

And here are your images:

Noteworthy
Similar to the previous “AI headshot generator”, this one is not a real headshot generator but rather a background changer.
Still worth experimenting with, though.

By the way, you can make edits to your images to match the color better.
To do this, click on one of those to view this editor view. The customizer can help your background match the lighting of your skin.
Pricing
Free!
I’ve not graded these background generators since it’s technically not an AI headshot generator.
Honorable Mentions
Here are some other good AI headshot generators that didn’t quite make it to the list today.
These are still good tools that I’ve tested earlier, so make sure to check those out.
Also, I’ve added tools like Fiverr and ChatGPT on this list—that is, tools that are most commonly not thought of as AI headshot generators.
1. HeadshotsByAI

Next up, let me introduce HeadshotsByAI.
This is another AI headshot generator that turns your regular camera roll photos into professional-looking headshots.
The results are sharp and clear — almost as good as BetterPic.
I might even put this one at the top, but there’s one drawback: you can’t edit the headshots. You can only view and download them.
My Experience
Once again, let me first show you how to use this product if you want to try it. Then, I’ll talk about my results.
First, HeadshotsByAI homepage and sign up.

Choose the “Personal Branding” option to start generating images of yourself.
Choose your gallery from the dashboard:

Enter details about yourself, such as your gender, eye color, and such.

Choose the input images of yourself.
Here are the ones I used:

Hit “Start training”.
This will send your images to the “AI photographer” to train on.

It will take a while for the AI to generate the headshots. Something like 45–60 minutes the last time I tested.

This AI headshot generator lets you know once the images are ready with an email:

Once the email arrives, click the link and enjoy it.

Here are my AI headshot results:

Pretty amazing, right?
These look so realistic that you’d never guess they were AI-generated.
Check out more photos the AI created for me:

I really like the lighting and outfit choices in these shots.
The quality and lighting are better than any other AI headshot tool I’ve used.
That said, in a few photos my forehead looks a bit tall, probably just me being picky after staring at my own face for years.
There are also a few small glitches, like slightly odd teeth or skin that looks a bit too smooth:

But those flaws are subtle; you probably wouldn’t even notice them.
Pros:
- Faster than most AI headshot generators (25 minutes vs. 1–2 hours).
- Highly realistic images with just 8 input photos.
- Smooth, user-friendly interface.
- AI editing options (background removal, eye color, attire changes).
Cons:
- 25 minutes might feel slow to some.
- Occasional flaws (odd eyes, imperfect teeth), like other AI headshot generators.
Pricing

- Basic: $29 for 30 headshots
- Standard: $39 for 60 headshots
- Premium: $59 for 120 headshots
To Take Home
Definitely one of the best AI headshot tools out there.
I highly recommend it.
The only drawback is that you can’t tweak the images, which is almost essential when it comes to AI headshots.
Because of that, HeadshotsByAI can feel a bit pricey since other top tools offer similar results and also let you make edits.
Where it really shines is the lighting. These photos are the best-lit of all the AI headshots I’ve tested. The images are also incredibly sharp, which I love.
The main downside is that you can’t fix the parts the AI gets wrong. In some shots, the expression looks a bit blank, or the lips and teeth don’t look quite right.
2. Try It On AI

Try It On AI is one of the top AI headshot generators out there.
It makes realistic images and is the fastest paid headshot generator on this list.
This tool also lets you customize and edit your headshots, and even offers a professional human editor to polish the final images.
The only downside is that you need to pay quite a bit to get the best results.
My Experience
To use Try It On AI, first, head over to this page.

I suggest the Professional plan because there, you’ll get 100 headshots.

Read the instructions next.

Add your details and characteristics and upload your selfies.

The upload sometimes fails if the images are too small. If that happens, just choose a different image.
Then pick your photoshoot styles. There are lots of AI headshot styles you can choose from.

Then specify your characteristics.

Once the selfie validation is complete, hit “send.”
Once the AI has made your images, you’ll get an email that notifies you about the AI-generated photos.
For me, this only took 10 minutes or so. This was crazy fast, but are the results good?
Here are the results I got:

What I like about Try It On AI headshots is the variety in image sizes.
Almost all the other headshot generators on this list force the images to one size, but here you get different aspect ratios.
And these definitely look like me.
Don’t forget that you can also edit your photos with AI.
Just click on an image to make it bigger, and pick one of the editing options in the top left corner of the view:

For example, you can change your background, remove stuff, re-create images, and more. Heck, you can even make a video of yourself.
Be sure to save the email/catalog link, as you can’t sign in to Try It On AI. This is the only way to access your images later.
Pros:
Cheaper than other AI headshot generators.
- Easy to use, just upload selfies and wait about an hour.
- Realistic results that look exactly like you.
- Editing and customization options are nice!
- Variety and versatility in the results and AI headshot sizes, too.
- Little to no artifacts in most images.
Cons:
- Some images could fail or not resemble you.
- A few images have a 3D-rendered look.
- The customizations are there, but they’re not the best. If you don’t know how to use those, it will also fail badly and just waste credits.
Pricing

That’s epic! But what about the pricing of this service?
- 20 Headshots: $35
- 50 Headshots: $49
- 100 Headshots: $61
If you want to have humans edit your photos, you’ll need to pay $9 per edited photo. It’s not bad!
To Take Home
Try It On AI is a really good AI headshot generator for social media AI headshots.
The results are some of the best I’ve seen. The generator is super fast, and the customization options are there.
Just keep in mind that your results might vary. For me, it’s still not quite the best, since BetterPic is just ahead of the rest.
The biggest issue with this tool was the user experience.
Honestly, it was rough. I felt lost using the app. There were no alerts or warnings, but I still couldn’t move forward with creating my headshots.
Before I saw the results, it felt like a waste of time and money.
But after struggling through it and seeing the final headshots, I decided it was worth including on this list.
3. Headshot.Kiwi

Headshot.Kiwi is one of the top AI headshot tools out there.
This AI headshot generator is fast, gives realistic results, and is somewhat easy to use.
It’s not higher on the list because it doesn’t let you tweak or customize the AI-generated photos
Let me share my results.
My Experience
To try Headshot.Kiwi, head over to their page.

I recommend picking the most expensive plan because you get 100 headshots with that one.
As I always say, there’s a great chance that one of your AI headshots is just going to look bad. But once there are tens or even hundreds, you’ll find good ones too!
Just follow the instructions on the site, and make sure to read the image instructions especially carefully.

This lets you get the best outputs.
Once you’re ready with the rules, upload a bunch of images of yourself to the AI headshot generator:

Just use regular selfies or images from your camera roll. These don’t need to be professional since that’s the whole point, we’re creating professional headshots from basic images.
One thing I must mention is that this tool has a terrible UX. Just terrible.
Here’s what happened when I tried to upload my images:

Also, it was very hard to start creating the images because there were “errors” in my inputs. However, the tool didn’t mention a word about those.

Nonetheless, once your images are uploaded and once the validation finishes, hit “Start AI photoshoot.”

Then sit back for a bit. It takes less than an hour for the AI headshots to appear. This tool doesn’t notify you, so please remember to come back after a while to see if your images are ready.
Here are my AI headshots:

Those look very nice, and some of them are good enough for me to use on my social media.
However, I must admit that this tool still gave me a bit of an over-the-weekend coding project vibe. The UX is so bad. The tool stalls and lags, and has no clear-cut workflow, unlike other similar tools.
But that being said, the results are still good, and even though you can’t edit them, it’s one of the top tools on the list.
Pros
- The cheapest plan is a bit cheaper than most other AI headshot generators
- Somewhat easy to use
- The results look impressively realistic
- Lots of variety and range in the photos
- Most shots come out clean, with minimal glitches or weirdness
Cons
- Some photos might miss the mark or look a little off
- A few shots can have a 3D or overly rendered vibe
- No editing tools to customize your AI headshots. You get what the AI gives you
- The images are all forced to be the same size
Pricing

- Starter: $29
- Professional: $39
- Executive: $59
To Take Home
Headshot.Kiwi delivers.
The headshots it generated are some of the best I’ve seen.
Still, the lack of customization and the wait time keep it a bit lower on this list.
Also, the user experience is terrible. If you feel like you’ve been stuck or robbed, I’ve been there too. I didn’t know what happened, but the AI headshot generator crashed while I was uploading my images.
Also, I didn’t get any warnings or alerts. I had to figure it out on my own. In that sense, this AI headshot generator gave me a vibe that this has been put together over the weekend.
The results were good, though. So what’s not to like!
Just be patient while creating and waiting for your AI headshots.
4. Prophotos AI

Prophotos AI is another fantastic AI headshot generator. It’s a great alternative to DreamWave AI, another popular AI headshot generator I’ve used.
My Experience
First, check out the introductory video on their page. (I’ll cover the same things in this post, though.)

Read the instructions first.

Here are my real images:

Select your gender and eye color to assist the AI.

Hit “Start” and wait.
It took about 30 minutes for the AI to generate my images.

Once the wait is over, here’s the email I got that notified me that the images are ready:

Let’s see the results:

Those have a similar vibe to those that PortraitPal made. I like them. Super realistic, natural, and soothing.
Could surely use one of these on LinkedIn.
By the way, let me show you how big a leap this AI headshot generator has taken. Here are the AI headshots I generated only 8 months ago:

Those looked impressive then. But today, that’s basic.
However, ProPhotos made a massive change to their system, and now they can create super-realistic images.
Here are the new ones:

That’s so much better!
They also removed the replicate feature, which is a bit of a disappointment.
Before, I could create similar images like this:

But now, that’s no longer possible.
Also, because they did not add edits to the photos, the tool is lower on the list.
All you can do is view and download:

I have listed many AI headshot generators, with more to come. I want to mention one thing: the best tools can vary for each person.
What’s #1 on my list might be in the top 10 on your list, but not even close to the top.
That’s why I recommend picking the headshots on this list that you like the most and then just give it a try. If it fails, just ask for a refund (and before you do, make sure the tool in question gives refunds).
Nonetheless, let’s consider the pros and cons of ProPhotos next.
Pros:
- Realistic, versatile headshots in various scenes.
- Reworking feature to refine AI-generated images.
- Faster than most AI headshot tools.
- Lenient image approval, no need to upscale photos.
Cons:
- Some images didn’t resemble me as well as the best tools on this list.
- A few had low resolution or a slight “robotic” feel, but most turned out great!
Pricing

- Basic: $25
- Premium: $55
- Professional: $155
⭐ My Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 4.5/5
- Customizable: 0/5
- Waiting time: 4.2/5
- Total: 3.8/5
To Take Home
ProPhotos is an affordable AI headshot generator that takes your selfies to the next level with AI.
Out of the 100 results I got, I liked at least 10 of them.
The lack of customizations is a big miss, though.
But the results are good, especially considering the low price. Also, this tool has taken massive steps in the past year or so.
The last time I tried this, the images looked artificial and terrible.
But today, it’s one of the top 10 AI headshot tools out there, which is a significant milestone.
5. Fiverr AI Headshots
Fiverr is a platform you’ve probably heard of before. It’s the most popular and trusted freelancer website.
However, you may not have heard of the Fiverr AI headshot gigs before, have you?
This platform has photo editors who have their own AI headshot generator tools that they use to create photos of you. You can then ask for revisions and provide feedback to get better images for the same price on the same gig.
The only downside is that this is not fast. For me, my gig took like 6 hours, and if my memory serves me right, it’s by default 24 hours or more.
My Experience
Let me show you my results with Fiverr AI headshot makers.
Remember, this is not an AI headshot maker tool, but rather a person you can hire to use one.

I hired a person called Ghanou K, as he looked the most promising headshot maker.

To create headshots, choose one of the freelancers who has expertise in the topic. You can search for AI headshots on Fiverr to find them.

After you’ve had a chat with your freelancer of choice, they’ll send you a custom offer.

You can either accept or reject. For me, the headshots cost 23€, which is roughly $25.
After I accepted the gig, I sent my real images to the headshot creator:

Then the gig started.

The next day, I came back to check my results. Here’s what I saw:

Those look pretty epic, don’t they? However, once I zoomed in, the results were a bit blurry and not too realistic.
That’s not a problem.
I just asked my talent to create new ones and fix the old ones.

I told my needs:

And I waited for a couple of hours to get my new headshots:

These are so much better! Now I also have a bunch more to choose from. There are AI action figure headshots, winter style headshots, celebration, and fan headshots.
Love it!
Pros
- Real humans work on your headshots.
- Revisions for if you’re not happy with the results.
- Good, realistic results that look more or less like you.
Cons
- This is not an AI headshot generator, but rather a real human working on the headshots. This can be a bit inconvenient for some.
- The results are really good, at least for me, but not the best. Your mileage may vary, though.
Pricing
The pricing varies a lot across different creators on the platform. Some will do it for $10, some for $50. I’d check the headshot maker’s ratings and choose based on that.
⭐ My Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 4.4/5
- Customizable: 3/5
- Waiting time: 1/5
- Total: 3.5/5
To Take Home
I like Fiverr AI headshots. They’re good value for money. However, it’s slow, and you need to work with a real human, so it’s not necessarily an AI headshot generator.
Also, the results aren’t quite the best out of the bunch, I have to admit. But still definitely worth the shot. Especially if you want customizations and a professional touch!
6. ChatGPT
Then we have ChatGPT. Since March 2025, it’s been possible to upload images of yourself to the chat that ChatGPT can modify.
This makes it a good AI headshot generator.
My Experience
ChatGPT is free, and you can create 3–5 headshots per day on the free plan.
In this sense, it’s the best free AI headshot generator on the market right now.
The AI headshot generator doesn’t edit your images directly, but rather regenerates one that resembles you.
I’ve found this to be impressive when it comes to image quality and customizations. However, to me, the results don’t quite look like me.
Just drop your image into the view. Then, ask ChatGPT to turn it into a professional headshot, dating profile image, or social media photo.

It takes about one or two minutes for the AI to create your headshot. It may take even less time during quiet times of the day.
Here’s one of my results:

I like it!
However, to me, this doesn’t quite look like me. And I’ve heard of this problem from others, too.
The headshots are sharp and customizable, but there’s just something off. What makes it tricky is that some people say the ChatGPT-generated ones are the best. But you might not like them at all.
I have that problem with the above headshot, to name one.
The image is sharp, the lighting is good, the clothes look cool, but to me, I don’t look like myself at all. I’ve seen myself in the mirror so many times.
However, what’s cool about ChatGPT headshots is that you can customize them to whatever you want.

- Either create a new image based on the existing messages and chats.
- Or click on your headshot for direct edits.

These edits are just awesome. No AI headshot generator comes close to these. You can do anything here.
For example, I asked ChatGPT to place me rowing on the surface of Mars.

This could be a funny social media post (at least it would have been if people didn’t flood the web with AI-generated stuff).
Just something to keep in mind: The AI doesn’t technically edit your photos.
It recreates everything while trying to keep it as realistic and untouched as possible. This is why if you ask it to do multiple versions in the same chat, the accuracy starts to wear off.
Pros
- Free for a couple of headshots per day.
- Easy to use. Just tell the AI what you want to create, and it will do the job.
- Customizations are insane, only limited by your imagination.
Cons
- The results look generic and similar. Once you’ve created 10–20 headshots, you’ll see the same boring patterns repeat. If you do so many, you’ll instantly spot if someone used ChatGPT to create their social media headshots.
- Limited to a couple of images per day. If you’re not using ChatGPT for anything else but AI headshots, the cost might be a bit of overkill.
- Limited even on paid plans. The AI can only create 10–20 images with the monthly Pro plan. That’s quite heavily limited.
Pricing
⭐ My Grade ⭐
- Realistic: 2.8/5
- Customizable: 4.9/5
- Waiting time: 5/5
- Total: 3.4/5
To Take Home
I think you should try ChatGPT for headshots. If you like the results, there’s no reason to buy an expensive headshot package.
However, if you’re not satisfied with the results, I recommend trying one of the dedicated tools on the list.
Thanks for reading! 🙂
